3 of my bikes(250r,IT490,IT200) have reed valves. Carbon fiber ones really do help, ALOT. Russ you should try experimenting with different reed setups.

It's annoying when these guys part this stuff out.
Engine is worth more complete, running or not.

My 3.5hp tecumseh 2-stroke has a bowl carb. Maybe it's only found on the older engines, mine's really old.

Funny you mention it. I have been looking into it but so far have come up empty. Upgrade kits I've seen do not give specs on reeds. Obviously, no one makes them for Lawn-Boys. I need to know widths, lengths, and thickness. I could trim them to fit.
I was looking to modify some to fit my engines.
I just may modify one of my reed plates so that it will accept one of the more popular kits.

Russ, i would go with some cheap Boyesen Carbon fiber reeds, I bet these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Reeds...mZ170269802025
Would suit it well. Got any pics of what the reed setup is like on the lawnboys? Id say its worth the 20 bucks, you'll probably see some good gains.

Those measurements are in inches correct? The reeds in the link ( same as the ones i have in my 250r) Are roughly 2 inches wide and 2.65 inches long. The only thing i'm worried about is when you cut them there's a chance the fibers could fray. But at 20$ its worth it, i paid 50$ for mine!
