Have you tried checking your local Freecycle group or craigslist? You can get some decent free stuff from other people on there.

Just ask for anything with a horizontal shaft running or not.

Because if it doesnt run you can pretty much bargain it down to nothing. And normally the only thing wrong with these engines is a simple carb clean or a spark plug Etc.

yeah there not really much that can go wrong in these engines cause they have only ....*counts on fingers*.... 5 moving parts in a briggs flathead, not counting the valves and lifters and stuff cause they just move up and down.

It'll be simple to fix.

What's to worry about points? Cut the wire off and replace it with a magnetron

Do all small engines have points? I do not fully understand what it does. Because on my jr dragster all I have is a wire off the coil going to the spark plug?

The 2 wires off the coil are for normall kill switch and emergency kill switch. So without points does that mean that every time the magnet goes past the coil it sparks the plug? That would mean it "wastes" a spark because it only actually ignites fuel ever 4'th stroke.

Virtually all engines use breakerless (without points) systems and use CDI or Capacitive Discharge Ignition. Requires little or no maintenance.
If you had points in your engines, performance would suffer greatly.

Clutch alone is $129. You can buy a new engine for that amount.
