with your electronic throttle, if thats what it is and im looking at it right! is that kind of thing hard to set up? does there need to be like no resistance where the motor pulls the throttle cable on the engine?

or can you just get a really strong motor? because i have a couple lying around. do i just need something like that 3pronged switch? or is there a circuit board to it aswell?

Redcali, I made a board that controls an R/C servo for my throttle. a metal linkage connects the throttle on the carb to the servo. The electronic throttle device you saw in the pic is a 5K potentiometer, it's not a switch. Here's a few pics of what the system looks like. The servo moves according to how much I move the pot and to match it's location. The servo is not currently attached to the throttle because I need to replace the gaskets on the carb. No, I will not be using alligator clips when it's all done :p

Well, I knew what to do, but I used a schematic I found online for the circuit board. You're most likely not gonna find any instructions online for adding a servo to your engine and speaking from experience, it's not that easy either. I had a hard time trying to figure out where to mount it.

yea i thought if it was a common thing instead of just cable driven thered be plenty of 'how to's'. with the setup i have no plenty of resistance is created by the bends and length of cable so thought this mightve worked. might try it in the distant future. goodjob with your though! looks very neat!

Thank you, Red!

Here's new pics for your viewing pleasure.

I got the Throttle assembly done today and it works well. I put a screw with a spring on the lever that moves the potentiometer so that I can adjust the idle. A larger spring returns the potentiometer to the idle position. A thin rod made of spring steel attaches the lever on the potentiometer to the gas pedal.

Theres another picture of the completed brake pedal. I put a spring in place that returns the pedal to it's regular position, a clip on the other side prevents the pedal from going back too far.

The last picture shows the two pedals and how they look now.

The only things left to do before I test drive on Saturday is make a mount for the battery, Attach the steering wheel properly, put in an off switch for the engine and harden the pedals. Can't think of much else that needs to be done at the moment.

Default Weeeeee!

Between this project and all the others making their way through this website, I can't wait to see this stuff go! As hard as it would be to organize, it'd sure be fun to see all this stuff in one place together. Maybe The Discovery Channel will foot the bill? Rent an pld airstrip out in New Mexico?... Yeah, I know- dreaming. NICE WORK, Kibble!

Oh, that would be the coolest thing, if Discovery were to sponsor something to have a special on their channel about DIY builders out there and the stuff we have made. They have all those other "Pro" shows like the Monster Garage and stuff. Would be cool if they did one of just us regular people.

@ Russ, Loctite 271 is the permanent stuff. I'm gonna use the removable stuff for now cuz I'm planning on completely tearing down my kart later so I can paint it.

@ Ironman, I'm gonna put threadlock on the bolts so the vibration doesn't easily knock them loose.

@ 2or3wheels, next is a paint job :P

Ironman, I don't remember off the top of my head, I'll measure them tomorrow, but I think it was like 36" wide. I don't remember how long.

Magice, the axles are 1". I took a differential out of an old Nissan Sentra and I got someone to machine the CV joints for me so that they would have a 1" bore to accept the axle, which I cut in two pieces. I'll take some detailed pics after I take it all apart to paint it.

Here's a pic of the brake system completely done with the disks in place and the differential back in place. I put brake fluid into it today, as can be evidenced by the slight purple tinge on the brake lines, and it works just as it should!
in this picture what is the gold thing in the middle at the top of the drive train it looks like the hub for a band brake but you got disc. on there just was woundering.
