Default Silver Streak

I bought a Fox Silver Streak on Craigslist. It is a small offroad cart. The motor is toast. I was just going to replace it and go, but I cannot find the replacement motor anywhere. It had a titan 49cc motor, but it had electric start between the motor and clutch. After reading on here about these projects, I thought I would upgrade to a larger motor from Harbor Freight.

Sounds like a good plan! Start a build log and keep us up to date. What kind of tools/skills do you have for fabrication as it's going to take some metal work to get it in there.

OK I have removed the motor and the mounts. I have started a ladder frame out of 1x1 angle iron. But the sprocket is on the left as you are looking from the back. If I mount the motor and use a centrifugal clutch it will run backwards, right?

Carb and exhaust should face rear of cart, or yes, if engine is mounted in reverse it will run in reverse.
Can you just flip axle?

The brake and the sprocket are on the same hub, and will not fit on the other side. I may be able to get another hub for the sprocket.

any updates to this? i'm thinking about buying one tonight and wanted to see how you ended up getting another motor on. stock it only goes about 10mph and my daughter won't be happy with that unless she can get a little quicker.... I'm wanting to get it faster but no more than 20mph...

I also recently picked up one of these at an auction. No motor, chassis only for $50. I thought what a deal for a 4-way coil over suspension, disc brake, live axle. But now I am seeing the due to the axle sprocket being on the right side, I am in need of a reverse rotation (cw) motor, correct? Anyone else had luck with a cw clone in these?

Hard to tell in the picture, but, is there enough room to flip the axle? Looks like the angle iron would be in the way.

I'm pretty sure I tried to flip the axle on mine and it wouldn't fit, can't remember the details sorry.

Seeing as the rear sprocket is tiny (well, mine is) a jack shaft is pretty much necessary unless you're using a bike engine. You may as well use a conventional engine and just make the jack shaft big enough to use the original sprocket.

Flipping it is not feasible for some of us without access to a welder to relocate the motor plate. These things were put out with a 50cc clockwise engine. One I might add that had electric start and a wireless remote kill switch, very surprising features for such a small motor. So if they (rh motors) were produced in large enough numbers to supply these production runs, then there has got to be more of these motors out there. So where to find a decent selection of RH motors?

Thanks Sideways.
The axle cannot be flipped because there is not enough room on the left side. I have decided to go with a jackshaft. I have a 99cc predator with a 10T #40 clutch. The rear sprocket is tiny. mine has 49 teeth and looks to be #35 size. I am now looking for pillow bearings and the best ratio for the sprockets.

I ordered the pillow blocks and the sprockets, but the original sprocket on the axle is not a #35 or #40. Does anybody know the size?

It may be 420. the easiest solution is to use the sprocket off the original engine on the drive end of the jackshaft

Any chance you have dimensions of this thing? One just showed up on CL near-ish to me. Would it comfortably fit a person who is 5'6-5'10?

Not comfortably, they're really just for kids. If you've got big feet you wont be able to work the pedals either.
