Default Predator 301 issues

Recently bought a used Murray explorer with a newer hemi predator 301. The engine was cutting out at higher speeds. Almost stuttering. I thought maybe the governor was causing it so I opened it up and removed it. Also removed the low oil sensor. Anyway I got the engine mounted back up and took it for a spin. Same exact thing happened, and there was no noticeable gain in speed at all. Just trying to figure out what my issue may be. Iíve checked the plug and itís black with soot like itís running rich, but almost acting like itís starving for fuel? Any help will be appreciated.

Sputtering and breaking up at WOT is too rich, and your plug seems to confirm that.
Screw in the main adjustment needle, or if that doesn't work, put in a smaller jet.

Any idea what the stock main jet size is in the predator 301? Bought a gokart with a drilled jet and trying to get back to stock
