Default Help with removing a Comet 40 Torque Converter

I'm new at this stuff and I just got a cart with a Comet 40 on it. I've been trying to get the driver cover/drive plate off with no luck. I got the bolt out no problem but then nothing. Does the cover screw off or slide off? I have seen both opinions listed and in the diagram, it looks like it has threads but hard to tell. I have tried penetrating oil and whacking (moderate whacks) on the drum to push it off. I even tried some heat. If it screws off, how do you hold the shaft so it does not just spin as you are trying to loosen it? Help, I'm trying to get this up and running for my son's birthday.

Thanks
