Here is another example for you guys

I have been interested in building/converting a motorcycle to electric (didn't see that comin' did ya)

So, just to see what's out there, I placed an ad on CL a couple of weeks ago:

Wanted Nice cruiser style motorcycle that needs work

I am looking for a project street bike
Not a dirt bike more of a cruiser style motorcycle
Something that doesn't run or has a bad motor
Please send pics
I have CASH

The main criteria I had in mind was:

Not:

-over $500.00 (it's just an experiment/ big toy basically)

-older than 2000 (easier to get parts & higher potential resale value)

-over 10,000 miles (I didn't want a "money pit" where the tires are wore out & the brakes & the bearings etc.)

Got several replies like:

I got a 1998 1200 Goldwing -been settin' $1,000.00

I have a '02 Sportster -owe $3,500.00 take over payments

or

I have a 1980 Kawasaki 440 LTD in relatively good condition, except right after I had the carbs rebuilt the motor seized $300.00 -negotiable

It wasn't exactly what I was lookin' for but, it was close by, so I went to take a look.

Yup, I brought it home,

my wife had a COW! (totally freaked out)

But, Honey,

It's complete minus carbs.

I got it for $100.00 how could I pass it up?

Well, she's NOT talkin' to me at the moment.

I'm furious... and jealous. Not of the bike, that's a $100 turd and I'm no fan of electrics unless you're talking light bulbs and such.

It's that hefty flat bed truck. Think of the possibilities...

I guess it's practically new. Probably put a lot of work into it.
He wants 125 for the bare frame... I might go look at it tomorrow, and see if I can talk that down a bit.
Yeah. $800 is outrageous. What do we do, start at the things that are known quantities?

Go kart frame is $195 give or take: http://azusaparts.com/ProductPage.as...productID=1546

212 Predator: $100-$120

Wheels, seat, seat cushion...They look factory Azusa too.

That is a nice bare frame though. Some brand fairly well-known but I can't place it right now. Love how the rear axle bisects the frame like that.

Yup, that's my money maker & toy hauler

*$100,00 turd really! (some folks pay over $100 just for a little go kart frame)

*no fan of electrics?

Come on Dude,

Electric IS the way of the future

Step your game up a notch (or 2)!

Internal Combustion Engines are ancient/history/relics of a bygone era

What's new, in gas engines, in the last 50 years?

Ethanol?

Fuel injection? (you'all still runnin' carbs)

& oh ya, electronics, computers, microprocessors, sensors & such

But, when you (or the whole world) is out of gas - you (or the whole world) are out of gas - forever!

There is no - generating more

solar panels won't help

wind won't help

your screwed.

But, ya still got ethanol

Got some real deals this week...

A one wheel peel with worn out tires and some ugly sofa cushions for a seat,. Listed for 550 or best offer. Would trade for a minibikes but then you don't get the engine.

And a "projec" cart. For 350. Comes with a newer Briggs 5hp. ( You know, all those modern green and gold paint schemes they use nowadays)

This guy... Keeps relisting this turd. A few weeks ago, it started out every few days, progressing now to at least daily, sometimes 2-3x per. Won't budge on the $300 price tag.

I'm guessing he got suckered into it for 3 bills, got it home, and the girlfriend/wife/mother had a fit, and now he can't unload it.

You must be interested in it. What would you pay for it?

With the big wheels and tires, if they aren't cracked or dry rotted, maybe 100. Maybe. I'm really not interested in it. I can build what's sitting right there in an afternoon.
