Is it set up to run on methanol or pump gas?

Can it only be started with a drill or can a regular recoil shroud be retrofitted?

How much you askin?

Not much I'm afraid. They don't make these anymore and the clones have taken over karting.

A lot of these are well-worn. I'd wanna see the cylinder meself.

they arent worth very much. depends on how much it was built and if it adheres to any rules. Try checking out ebay like get on there and (search on your computer) type in

"briggs flathead race engine" or similiar and then click on the left hand menu that says "sold items" i just found TWO engines that sold for $175.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/5hp-Briggs-...p2047675.l2557

i picked up an old flathead (just a standard one) for $45 today. They arent worth a lot but the race ones can be had for not so much $$. If it has a cam, decent carb, and all the goodies inside, you can get them cheap since most go kart racers use overhead valve engines nowadays.

since that for now seems like a discussion more than a for sale thread
I've moved it..

Please feel free to start a new thread in the for sale trade section as soon as you know the price you are asking for your engine

thank you

---------- Post added at 12:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:12 PM ----------

so I checked out that ebay listing .
it did not run correctly and the po did not know a lot about it.

so even though they are the same engine I really do not like the comparison that all should
sell at A LOWER PRICE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT HE GOT FOR HIS...

MY ENGINE STARTS RIGHT UP AND IS A BEAST.
IT'S (COUGH COUGH) CYLINDER IS IN GREAT SHAPE .
IT DOES NOT SMOKE , IT IDLES AND REVS SMOOTHLY AND CORRECTLY FROM START TO FINISH.IT DOES NOT LEAK IN ANY FASHION.
IT CAN BE RETROFIT FOR A REGULAR RECOIL ASSEMBLY.

I UNDER STAND THAT THE WORLD HAS MOVED ON FROM BRIGGS.

IT IS JUST THAT THIS ENGINE IS STOUT AND HEALTHY AND READY FOR SOMEONE TO GIVE IT A NEW PLACE IN LIFE.

Well, it's your engine at the moment, so you decide what you want to let it go for, we don't determine that.
And on the contrary, I'm still back in Briggsland meself.
Another deciding factor is the internals. A billet rod and flywheel cost ~$200, so that increases value. even more exotic stuff would be stuff like a Wiseco piston, a stroker crankshaft, and a hot camshaft. Also, it helps if it has headwork(shaving, thinner head gasket, and porting and polishing)
YOU DECIDE THE PRICE. WE DO NOT.

I put it on my baja mini bike for a comparison .
stock it does 40 mph.
the briggs scared the **** out of me . it did not seem to have a top end.
I think I ran OUT OF GEARING BEFORE THE ENGINE RAN OUT OF REVS..
KNOW THIS IS NOT VERY SCIENTIFIC ..

SO I'LL HAVE TO DO ALITTLE MORE HOME WORK TO FIND OUT EVERYTHING IT DOES HAVE...
