Default Tecumseh pronunciation

It looks as though Tecumseh is actually pronounced "Tecumsee." Ran across this vintage factory training video, interesting if no one has seen it yet. Not sure if this has ever been mentioned on this site, if it has, sorry about any repeats. Pretty lenghty though.

Thanks

I always thought it was TecumSEH, but I've found after watching Carsandcameras with their pronunciation of TecumSEE, I've started saying it too.
It rolls of the tongue better I think.
But either way, the pronunciation doesn't really matter.

Tecumseh, Tekumtha... Tikamthi
I bet how often you try is how often you pronounce it incorrectly!
Why? because you're no Shawnee!

Listening to "trainingsvideos" or "company videos" is a baaaad source too I'm afraid

I've seen an american trainingsvideo for a guy working for a german company,
and boy did THAT hurt

I've seen a german guy working for a company making mainly orange juice..
being 100% unable to say "Orange" it was a major desaster

So you don't get fired if you do not know how to pronounce a word
and in fact you might still be allowed to show your skills in official videos

Do not rely on that.. find the origin of the Name
(fairly easy with Tecumseh)
find a native speaker of the language in question AND ask!
And even then you might get incorrect results..

I mean look at just your country ... pick a seven letter word of any kind..
how many obscure sounding answers could you collect for it
from all over the United States?
And I bet you giggled before at someone four or five states in some direction pronouncing a word, right

Just try your best to accept it's not an english name nor word,
and that you CANNOT just assume english pronounciation would be correct
(it's very very unlikely the case)

'sid

PS maybe you find some history channel documentation about the original Tecumseh and get to hear some Shawnee telling stories about him... *shrugs*

Like Porsche, being Porsch-A. Bosch is easy. Sig Sauer and Heckler & Koch are usually the harder to pronounce than Tecumseh.

This Indian looking guy seems to think it's pronounced "Tecumsay" and he certainly looks authentic. Good luck trying to stay awake listening to him.

I tend to pronounce it, Tacumsa (the a's are pronounced like they are in above, or abbreviated.)

And I'm somewhere between 1/16 and 1/8 native american, and you cant really tell.

Maybe we should ask Elizabeth Warren how it's pronounced.

I had a feeling, this was going to sidetrack into that. Walking on a fine line with that one. Everyone has their own way of saying it.

The definitive pronunciation is "teckasheema".

It's about as confusing as Heckler and Koch or Sig Sauer, first half easy, last half...not so much.

Had a Shop Foreman who habitually mangled the English language.
To him, a Tecumseh was “A Watusi”.
And Watusi its remained to me to this day.
