so youre saying im screwed? i just bought this for $50 and i just spend $8 on fuel tube and $15 on a head gasket and head bolt and $30 on a pull start....

At this point you're at least going to need a new flywheel and a block. Unless you know a machinist, or have access to a mill to drill out the bolt, re tap it, and TIG weld up those cuts you made in the deck and mill that back down.

Yea man, there is basically no way you can save that block seeing how far you gouged it. Decking is an option but you are talking a few thousandths. If by some off chance you did manage to use a right handed ez-out and get that bolt out of there there is a possibility of a new head gasket sealing but not something i'd even want to put my effort into trying.

You mentioned that you were out of money... that sucks hearing about you list all the things you bought for that flatty. A 20% coupon out of any car magazine and the $99 sidewalk sale at HF makes the clone about $75. Change the oil frequently and have a motor that will last as long as a Honda and make 6.5hp on the second pull out of the box every day. With another $50 into it you're in the 7-8hp range.

well the one that broke off was the skinny one, will it really matter? maybe my dad will buy me one cuz he broke it.

i can go ask a auto shop to drill it out. what happpens if i dont fill in the cuts? will jb weld be ok? the high temp one? it says its made for engine blocks.

i would have said use a little heat but it looks like it might be a little late for that if you could get the bolt out i'd just put it together and see if the head gasket holds, but your going to need a new flywheel.
at this point i'd say just use it as a parts engine
i woudn't buy a clone either

why didnt i think of heating it??? im gonna try that.... i think i have a pencil torch somewhere, lol i still have a fhathead screw driver groove in it.

as for the flywheel,
the silver one is broken.

Lol... enjoy hoping your motor runs halfway as good as a brand new "ready for mods" out of the box solution that cost less than it cost to even try to fix the Flatty. That is of course completely taking the cost of your labor out of the equation. I for one value the time i spend fixing crap when comparing it to the time i can spend having fun riding the thing i was trying to fix in the first place. But i have a job and other important interests so maybe i put too much emphasis on my labor costs nowadays.

Just drill it out then tap it for a new bolt.

Just curious, why did you take the head off in the first place? Doesn't look like you actually needed too? First lesson working on stuff, don't fix it if it aint broke, you always end up breaking stuff.

I second sideways, it would of been easier.

You wouldn't of had to fix the deck eithier.

As far as jb weld, no way its ganna hold on the head good.

Try to find someone with a tig welder somewhere and get them to weld it and be really careful when you start to surface it back down.

It can be done with a belt sander, true straight edge, and a feeler gauge.

But im not ganna garentee that will work.

Or you can take it to a machine shop waste and 200 bucks on service work.

(If it were mine, i would get it welded and see if i could surface plan it my self with a belt sander) but.... I got way to way too many ideas floating around in my head and not enough time to get any thing done lol

If you have access to the equipment and the knowledge to do it yourself, then I would. It is much more satisfying and rewarding to build your own sh!t than to just bolt on a Clone. Just because there is an easy way out doesn't mean it should be taken.


Might I also just say that having someone with the screen name slideways and someone with the screen name sideways is kinda confusing.

It makes you feel good about yourself if you can do something with small tools that it takes someone else expensive tools to get done.

You only got one life that last for so long.

Yes, it is rather .

If it was my engine I'd drill the bolt and then tap it out with the largest tap I have then simply use the appropriate bolt as your new head bolt. Sure, it wont be as good as having the proper sized bolt but it's better then nothing. I'd also fill that groove with solder seeing as I don't have a welder that can do aluminium.

You could also just try it with out the head bolt there, it probably wouldn't work though.

Looks like the rest of the engine is in good nick.
If you drilled and tapped it out,
(going to be hard since you have nothing to centre-punch into),
fixed it up as best as possible,
you would still suffer a great loss of compression,
it would work but if you were trying to improve your engine's capability, well you havn't

and in my eyes thats a waste of time, i think instead of wasting time -

Step back a little, take a look at what works and just wait for the parts to come available on the net- ebay,craigslist or at garage sales.

If you rush into replacing parts its going to cost you, usually if you just wait the parts they, usually come to you.

Are you going to get the enjoyment out of all the effort you are putting into fixing this?

Only you can answer, and you have to decide what to do next.
