Default Chain question: Manco American Express

Sorry for the vague question, Iím new. Recently pulled out my 25 year old go kart for my daughter. Fires right up, but the chain is missing so it doesnít go. Does anyone know which chain to get? I donít see any markings near the clutch and it looks like there are at least 4 major types from researching online. I can post a picture if that helps, thanks gang.

Hello and welcome...

Ya were going to need more info for sure... Pics, motor, any other info ect...
Typically it'll be #35 or #40/41 chain... Hopefully the clutch and the rear sprocket are the same...

Default Chain Question

Thanks for the reply, Iíll go get a picture now. I saw online where people made some pretty cool karts out of these old ones, more HP, roll cages, etc. I may have awakened a beast!

The axle sprocket is #35 chain. Not sure about the clutch.

Very nice kart, that's for sure.

Hey I really appreciate the help, I have 2 but couldn’t get the other to run so I ended up giving it away basically during a yard sale. I have been pumped to get my daughter on this one. Do you guys have an online vendor you recommend? I’m a pocket knife/firearm collector, but this forum is very cool. Spent a couple hours down the rabbit hole

Another rookie question here - am I right that 2 chains are needed? Is there a diagram showing how they both connect?

Nope, just one chain on a single stage reduction like that.

It fired right up, that’s how I discovered the missing chain. I guess it came off in the move, was helping my mother out as she’s downsizing houses. Drove it back home and it ran, but just coasted. That’s when I pulled the guard off and saw I’m missing the chain. Thanks for the help, I’m going to order a 3 Ft #35 chain I guess and work on installing. This BMI site has detailed instructions.

I'm pretty sure it's a 35 chain. Parts can be bought at Go Powersports, BMI, OMB...etc. you can get a chain at Tractor Supply if you have one near by. Google go kart parts and all the major vendors will come up.
