Default DIYGK Wiki?

Just out of curiousity, is there any reason we don't have one? Would it be hard to restrict editors to stop spam?

There's a massive amount of information on this website, and a massive amount of knowledgeable people. Problem is, most of it is fairly buried under the search function and what isn't constitutes a large number of stickies scattered across the different parent forums.

Just a few categories... let's say basic engine operation, engine troubleshooting, engine tuning, and basic gearing would probably take care of half or more of the newbie posts, and realistically that's not even scratching the surface of what people on here have to offer. I realize we have stuff on the homepage which could be a good start but I assume 99% of Google searches pull people straight to the forums anyways.

Great stuff readily available there. Landuse probably took a lot time gathering that. Thanks Landuse!!!

Essentially yes. Again, tons of information but in a bit of a disorganized fashion... As far as informative quality it's decent but it's also inconsistent in presentation. But the primary issue in my opinion is that it's posted on a rather non-prominent parent forum with a rather unassuming title... not only will it rarely be seen by someone looking for the information, but the lack of titled page and very brief mention of each topic will make it unlikely to be a common landing page from search engines -- to do that you really need titled pages holding their own content (as opposed to indexes) on a separate form than the general forum posts.

I think how you have it is about as good as it's going to get, it's the limitations of compiling information in a forum thread that I feel can be improved upon.

I've never been a huge fan of wikis -- but yes compiling information and adding it to, or even updating Landuse's thread would be a good idea. Maybe we could add to that list and then move those to a more permanent home with better titles. That was the idea behind the "FAQ" forum, which has not lived up to it's job yet.
