Default Brake return is slow

On Super Wheels by Carter model 2575, band brake, what makes the brake pedal return? What else should I look for? The rod runs by the frame in a couple places but seems to be bent correctly.

Sometimes the springiness of the band brake is enough to return it.

Manco karts have a torsion spring added to the pedal or an extension spring added to the brake rod.
The possibilities are endless.

Part #84 for example:

Also, make sure there's no binding in the linkage. Everything should be nice and loose, especially at the front end/at the pedal. Don't forget to lubricate everything with a decent lube.

I use 30W motor oil in one of those old fashioned oil cans. Puts a precise drop or two right where I want it.
