Here is our pulling truck.. sorry to make your 3500 look small you had top spot.
a 2001 F550 7.3 powerstroke diesel. towing capicity of 33,000lbs and can hold up to 13,000 pounds in the bed.. and by the way 550's rarely have a bed on them, this was a custom thingy ![]() ![]() |

7.3l=444ci, not that big in comparison to other diesels, and smaller than many big block gas engines.
ElectricalBen, do you haul scrap with that truck (seeing the trailer in the background)? That's a lot of weight in the bed. And I was impressed when I put 1700lbs worth of batteries in the back of our K2500 or when I hauled this without it sagging. ![]()

Want to talk about overloading?
I once hauled a yard of sand in the back of my Dad's k1500, the first scoop(half yard) put the poor truck on the axle snubbers. On cheapass tires! Another time in the same truck we hauled a heaping load (above the cab, w/ racks) of fresh cut wood, riding on the axle again, down I-94. That front end gets really light at 65mph. I seriously drove it home with 1 finger on the wheel. Truck routinely sees similar wood down back roads at 55mph, hills are interesting when the trans drops to second gear and the little 4.3 V6 starts screaming. Over 260K, original engine, trans, T case and diffs. |

Nice looking truck there Ben, There are some issues with the older powerstroke motors, Including fuel injection, VGT Turbo and EGR headaches. The power is also quite low on those motors F-550 Super Duties are assembled at the Kentucky Truck ... The main competition, General Motors, liked the idea so much that for the 2001 model year, ... The 7.3 L Power Stroke turbodiesel with 235 horsepower and the Sierra 3500HD with Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8, making 397 hp and 660 Ft/Lbs of torque.

It has plenty of power, not a duramax or that brand new 6.7 powerstroke diesel, it has 500 some odd pound feet, the 4.88 gears in the rear end are what help it pull so much truck is lucky to go 85 miles an hour top speed, we hauled scrap there, ut we haul tractors, and lumber and everything under the sun, We have a toyota t100 rated to tow 5500lbs. we had a 8000 lb reese hitch on it, well we bent it and cracked it we pulled so much weight, pulled well over 10,000 lbs with that litte toyota but you gotta do what you have to do, this ford was one heck of a good deal, and only has 90,000 miles on it. the f550 diesel is tuned down some compared to the f350 diesel, but it has the same rearend in it as the 650-850's have so it gets alot of tug power from that. and only gets 12 miles a gallon. where the 350's with that same engine that are tuned up a bit get upwards of 20 some even better depending on which gears you have. very dependable engines the 7.3's are and all castiron. the powerstroke was a turd with there 6.0l and there 6.4 wasnt much better.. there new 6.7 though is a raw beast. its 390hp and 735lbft. then duramax tuned up there 6.6 to a 397hp, and 765lbft. so now ford is tuning theres to 400hp, 800lbft. that much power is good and all but not completely nessary, and diesels are amazing due to the massive amounts of power you can pull with up grades. a good diesel is supposed to run stock at about 30 percent its potential.. woah i typed alot

Wow I need the time to look through this thread I am a true car nutter, 4 projects on the go 1988 Honda NSR250R Road Bike, the Kart, 1973 Datsun 260c and an 85 Nissan Z31 with an RB30DET.
The Datsun will be getting a Blowen VH45 engine and the Z is at the paint shop. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Z31 is being moded to look like the one below, the whole car is shaved and partly panel beated, I may use a 180sx aftermarket bumper but the rest of the car will be a close match to that, the bloke who built it is a legend in my eyes. ![]() |
