I caught the deal of the century a few days ago; I went to buy a blow torch & found one while being assisted by TWO staff members & decided on the one in pic #1 which was behind a price tag for $35; when it was scanned at the register, it came up as $89; I only paid the advertised $35; SCORE!

Then I pit it to work making spindle brackets...

Starting to look a little like go karts...

With the Sprocket & brake disc adapter, the wheels won't fit on the square tube so, I machined the stub axle bolt head to fit in a small length of round tube which will then be attached to the rear axle; I had to file flats on the round tube to make them fit inside the square frame tube...

After I attach those, I need to drill out the spindle brackets, weld spindles together & attach the brackets the the frames...

With a bit of luck & careful planning, I should have rollers by the end of the weekend...

Yes, of course...

Both karts now have rear axles &, using a length of threaded rod, a few nuts & large flat washers as a guide, I tweaked the front spindle brackets with an adjustable wrench so that the holes line up...

Today I build front spindles...

It seems, lately, it's been one step forward & two steps back with these karts... mostly a case of poor planning &/or me being in too much of a rush to get them done...

After welding the rear stub axles on, I found that 5/8" ID bearings are rather difficult to find & expensive so, I've opted to go for the more common & much cheaper 12mm ID bearings (I purchased 20 12mm bearings for the same price as 3 5/8" bearings)...

This means I not only need to remove & replace the rear stub axles, it also means I need to turn 8 hubs; turning all those hubs is not that big a deal, really, I planned to do that anyway as the wheels I chose to use have weak, rubbish hubs anyway, the frustrating part is having to carefully remove the stubs without damaging anything else...

So, after turning two hubs & welding on the double flange plates, I then realised the inside bearing notch isn't deep enough as the bearing interferes with the sprocket/brake disc adapter; now I have to remove the outside flange & attempt to machine them deeper

On the upside, making the flange plates was made easy due to a couple of recent purchases; I've been wanting one of these drill presses for years, just never got around to it; last week my hand drill press frustrated me for the last time so I went out & picked one up...

Yesterday, I went out & bought a hole saw kit; I had to also buy a separate hole saw to achieve the size I needed but, I've already used it on another job, cutting the steering arms the correct size & shape to fit the spindle tubes...

Even though you are having a few setbacks, those karts are coming along nicely.

Just one question though. That pic you posted of the rollers....those wheels look like HF quality stuff I hope i am wrong

For now, yes they are...

These karts won't be seeing any huge speeds so, IMO, they should be ok with the new hubs; I used similar wheels on my daughters kart & didn't have any issues...

Having said that, I would NEVER use them or recommend them for a high speed kart...

Looks nice. I love the way you aligned the front spindle brackets.

Umm, they're not aligned yet, they still need nylon bushes

So, crisis averted; I was able to fit the hubs on the outside of the inside jaws on my lathe, line them up really close (within 0.2mm) & simply cut the bearing slots deeper; the adapter flange now sits flush with the hub flange

Lots of drilling & grinding over the next few days...

Because I tend to jump all over the place, from one thing to another, I've now made the tie rods...

Because I couldn't buy left hand threaded nuts, I decided to make some... because I can...

Cone style nuts with two flats filed down to size...

Due only to time restrictions, that's a no (for now ); a splash of silver paint will be quicker & easier...

AusEx was built with both looks & function in mind, to "show off" my abilities; I really don't have the time to spend on "frivolous" exercises, hence, for now, these will roll on the cheap & nasty hubs until I have the time to build decent ones, I simply need to get these finished...

LOOOL
well, I think I'd agree with that!

And in the near future I think some grinding and filing will be involved
(to turn the holes into four slots)...

motor mounting plate.. I'd say

Have a close look at the holes, they're not in straight lines

An engine plate for what?
