Help with Motor/Controller

Hello Everyone, I am building my first Go Kart and at the current moment I am trying to determine the year of my frame for obtaining missing parts. Well, while I take the pictures tonight of the frame and submitting it to Birel for identifying I would like some hep on the electronics as I don't have any idea how controller works or whatever it means by 3pins, 4pins, 5pins, 6pins to match with motor.

I am thinking of buying one of the two different motors choice below, but no idea to what controller it matches with as plug n play or is it easy to rewire any controller to any motor? I also want to over volt the motor to 36 or 48v, to obtain more torque and speed.

first off, i highly recommend you look at TNCScooters instead of monster scooter parts. Their prices are much better

you dont need to buy Currie Technologies branded motors they are the same motors but with a higher price cause they are labeled for Currie.


can we get some information as how fast you plan on making this go kart? what size tires you plan on running? do you plan on overvolting like most people do? this will greatly help with being able to provide you some useful information as to what you should look into.

I was thinking of using, 11 inch tires, 15-25mph would be fine also would like it to have torque, yes I would like to overvolt. Thank for the advice on not having to go with currie.

Fresh - for 15-25mph dpending on weight of driver thats totally possible with an electric

I have a 24v 350w motor with 11t sprocket, 36v chinese controller from tnc and 36v twist throttle with led power guage. I'm using 3 12v SLA batteries for 36v.

I have a 80t rear sprocket on 10.5" tires. the kart does about 18mph with me on it. I'm 170lbs. it does about 20mph with either one of my kids on it 60 and 100lbs. its got some torque but you could bump up to a 90t sprocket for more torque too. the good thing is sprockets are cheap so you can buy an extra one to try out to see if you like it.

If i was going to do it again I'd still go with a 24V motor, but I'd prob go up to a 500w or bigger.

I'm currently building a radio flyer go kart with the same motor/controller setup as above but using 11.5" tires and a 72t axle sprocket (it was the biggest available for a 1" axle) I'll probably get another 1mph out of it but a little less torque.
