Default Cold Fusion

Don’t want to keep cluttering up my 212 thread...

Ford Fuion 2011 SEL
V6 3.0L Flex-Fuel
~95k miles.

First “performance” mod I just did was the Steeda Short Ram Intake. They call it cold air intake, but are short ram intakes really hot air intakes???

Does the hood insulation "seal" with the top of the heat shield???
Almost looks like somebody measured this!

Cold is a relative term. And your post title made me think of this movie:

Has the 2 disc ultimate warrior tribute.

ESPN has a great special feature about Rick Flaire.

I totally missed the WWF. I used to watch some staged wrestling in the early '70s. Names like The Sheik, El Gorpio, Bobo Brazil.

By the way I took second place heavyweight at state, Michigan 1984. Yep, I was the first loser.

A few of those guys were in Big Time Wrestling. I've never heard of it until I looked up Sheik to see if it was the same Iron Sheik in WWF. It is not.

Big Time Wrestling.

I only like fake wrestling. Real wrestling lacks the strikes that make fights interesting. LOL

New email from Steeda says they DO NOT offer a tune for E-85.
Going to take the throttle body off for cleaning. I might send it to Cordova to get "optimized".
Good thing I live across from my work (and grocery store, and laundromat, and auto parts store, and dollar store,...) and can go two weeks without a car without any problems.

http://cordovamotorsports.com/cgi-bin/CMS/shop_mastr
Description: Optimizing your throttle body will remove many air-flow restrictions present in the factory part. An optimized throttle body has over 14% more open air flow area than a stock unit providing dyno proven gains for both HP and torque. Optimization starts with the removal of screw heads and extra threads that protrude into the air flow and also includes polishing the bore and reducing the shaft profile. This service is available for most Ford, Mazda, and other types of throttle bodies and takes about 8-10 business days including shipping time for your throttle body.

$100 plus the price for me to ship it there. An optimized intake of the same size shows about 3-4% gains in pk HP and TQ on the engine below (and improvements across the entire RPM range).

Steeda said to expect about 10% gains with the tune and intake. Most gains in the midrange and throttle response. They also said they can tune for most throttle bodies.

Come on, it will make him steer better if he can't stop. LOL
Price is not usually how I judge the effectiveness either, of anything.

If the price was tripled and sold at Pepboys, would they be any better?

I should buy stock in this prefilter company...
I bet the stock airbox flows better and cleaner than the cone filter with this prefilter.

It probably allows enough air for my engine???
Initial testing shows improved gas mileage over the stock box.
But also just changed oil, trans fluid, and pulled a bunch of weight out of the back.

I’m going to ignore the other variables say i’ve gained 3 mpg.
19.5 combined city/highway before. Now 22.5 combined city/highway.
Mostly city driving. On the highway, I can get around 36 mpg

15% increase in fuel economy is totally believable with an intake. I’m buying it cause I already bought it. LOL

I not buying it. Don't have a Fusion. But I've spend a lot of time in Hermosillo.

I'm Team Cheap too, but everything has it's limits. Pepboys is overpriced, to me at least. Get in the Zone, Autozone. Plus, they usually have 3 price categories on a lot of parts, Gold being the best, usually with lifetime warranty.

I guess my siblings (I'm one of 7) have somehow assigned me as the family mechanic When I do a brake job, I always make them buy the better brake pads, cause "I'm doing you a favor, and I'd rather do this favor again later rather than sooner"

If you start putting eBay brakes on their cars, then perhaps you can be relieved of that burden.

Cheap rotors are more likely to warp. You can use them, but before you even put them on, bring them into an auroparts store to see if they are already warped. Should be cheap or free. Then, after you install them teach him what break shudder is like and how he can feel it the steering wheel. Something to look for at +5k miles sown the road.

For car parts it is best to go with the local stores like Auto Zone, Adanced, etc. Because if their incentives programs and ease of return/exchange. If you must go online, the look at Rock Auto.

Oh, and extended braking sessions will lead to early warping. If he comes down a long hill often, teach him about engine braking if his car will allow it.

If nothing else, the intake makes me drive my car differently. Trying to hit red lights on purpose (if it means I get to be the first car at the light).

7000 RPM doesn't seem like much since my snowthrower engines spin way faster, but now I often floor it from a stop and it'll shift at close to 7k in my car, which is much more fun than shifting wherever it would shift if driving normally. The modifications will not break my car. I will. LOL

I do like the sound the intake makes. It sounds mean without the baffling - or perhaps I just didn't drive aggressively enough before.
