Default Steering Column

Hello,

I am looking to remove the steering wheel rod(column). There is a pin at the bottom. Other that banging it out with a hammer, is there an easier way. Im afraid I will flatten it and then it will not go thru.

That's called a roll pin, or spring pin.

You need what is called a pin punch. It will push it all the way through.

A set of them is pretty cheap.

Alternatively, a framing nail of a similar (but ever so slightly smaller) diameter, with the point ground flat will work. It's not ideal but it will probably work, unless the pin is REALLY stuck in there.

And if you peen the end (the proper term for smashing it flat by accident), try the other direction. All else fails, cut it off flush on both sides, then get it up on the workbench to punch the rest of it out.

Replacements are cheap. Like less than a quarter at your local hardware store cheap.
