Saw a 16hp duramax engine with electric start for $229 shipped. Are these engines any good? Do they make go cart clutches to go on a engine of this type?

These engines are cheap and tend to be reliable. You will need a 1 inch clutch to fit the shaft.

I'll just add to Jcotz's post here since I have a 13 HP with a 1" output shaft. The clutch is going to be much bigger (~2x the weight of a small one). If you buy a new one, it's probably going to smoke a bit and that is normal, because it's burning off the excess lubrication from the factory. HOWEVER, it shouldn't smoke after a couple rides. If it is still smoking, you need to check your gear ratio. The clutch will just slide right on (Put some grease or a small drop of motor oil on the end of the crankshaft beforehand) and is locked in place with a key that slides in between the clutch and the keyway. Hope this helps a bit.

WOW! I wish I had an electric start! So is the 7hp any good? Any one know if its possible to put the starting parts (Im assuming the key) remotely, say like on the "dashboard"?
