Default Baja Magnum?

I'm new here. When I was a kid I kept getting catalogs from some company that sold the "Baja" which was 5 hp and the "Baja Magnum" which was 8 hp. I saved up my paper route money to buy one but when I finally had enough money my mom confiscated all my funds. I am curious about this brand of go cart, when I do a google search I don't come up with anything but maybe I'm not searching hard enough. Does anyone have one of these? Thank you.

the Baja 5HP is a Model name for a
Manco 285-16
the more common name would be DINGO (since the 285 is one of the Dingo frames..)

then there was a Phoenix Baja 200 (also Manco, a 285-36 or various flavours of the 286 [6hp] and so on)

IIRC there was no 288 (same frame but 8hp)
but there was the 388 (similar frame 8hp)

285-16:

388-15:

if it was ever sold under the name of Magnum escapes me;
there's a Manco Magnum express however that's a two seater kart nothing like the Dingos above.
Anyways chances are some magnum decals have been used by Manco

Default Baja Magnum

The Baja Magnum was similar to the Dingo....but not the same machine. It had turf style tires, a differential rear axle, dual independent rear brakes, and handlebars instead of a steering wheel. I had one as a kid and it was a beast! Over powered for a 11-12 year old....that is for sure. With that torque converter (and the way it was geared) it had so much low end torque that on a good surface, it would pull the front wheels 2 FEET off the ground. The top end was about 45mph. No gas pedal but a twist grip throttle instead. You could whip that thing through the turns by hitting either of the dual brake levers......just lock up the inside wheel during a turn and twist the throttle a quick snap and hold on because it felt like you were riding the Tilt-a-whirl at the county fair. As much as I pounded it for a few years, the differential was really durable.
