UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

I changed the plug over, put it all put back together & we have spark but it won't start Maybe it's something to do wqith the stale fuel in the carb: took the carb off, drained it, drowned it in degreaser & put it back on, still won't kick

I pulled the spark plug out to flush the dead fuel out of the cylinder & noticed the plug had no gap; opened it up, put it back in & it started ran for about 5 seconds & died

I did have time to discover the exhaust was leaking so, I checked it out, tightened the flange nuts & tried again; nothing

I pulled the plug again &, again, there's no gap; this is looking sus...

I reset the gap, put it back in & tried one last time; it fired up again ran for about 5 seconds & died again

I pulled the plug out again & noticed something I didn't really like (see pic below) I cant get a really clear pic so, I hope you can all see what I see...

Meanwhile,

Hey Fabroman,

where's her helmet ????? : )

That's the same type of 49cc I'm using in my 2014 build off, but need to get one of those clutch housing / gear reduction units like yours first ! can you let me know what sprockets are you running on that thing ?
Cheers Jim

It does, doesn't it...

Well, I found a temporary solution, I machined a 5mm spacer from a length of 5/8" round bar (see pic); it seems to work ok:

Yes, it's dark but, it's more for sound than vision; I'll shoot a better vid tomorrow but, for now,

IT RUNS!!!

I cant really comment, when I was a kid never ever wore (or owned) a helmet and we rode those deadly old Honda trikes : )

It seems the damaged battery I got had a bit more damage than I thought, it wasn't charging so, there must be internal damage & the other one I had isn't holding charge; I had no choice but to buy a new one...

I also managed to source the bolts for the body from the PO, cleaned them up & had them chrome plated; I plan to attach them today if the hole in my head where a tooth used to be doesn't give me too much grief...

Also, I ordered a new front faring & headlights yesterday...

Default Small update:

Body all bolted together, everything secure...except the seat...

There's a catch at the back that clips onto a metal bar but, there's meant to be a bracket at the front which locates under yet another bar. I can see a problem trying to source just the bracket (as opposed to the whole seat) so, I just made one...

Not as easy as it sounds: As I don't have the original as a guide, the first thing I had to do was make a guide or template. Using a small length of 0.55mm sheet, I bent it into shape as close as I could in the confined space then transferred that shape onto a length of 30x3mm flat stock.

Using the seat as a template, I marked & drilled the the two necessary anchor holes, I also had to grind down the edges because the pocket where it sits is only 28mm

A few bends, trial fits & adjustments & a coat of black paint later, I'm done & it works like a charm

I had a little test run on it today, didn't get it up to speed but MAN IT'S GOT SOME TORQUE!

It is... NOW!

I wish I could say the same for the pocket bike. Got it out yesterday, it started first go but, kept cutting out as if it was starving but, had plenty of fuel...

I think a little investigating is needed...

Do the carb have a petcock on the fuel inlet?

Edit: like this?

They are prone to leaking and not being good at letting fuel through.
I recomend dong the Petcock Mod.
(Btw that is one of the forums I used to be active on)

Or if the carb has the fuel inlet like this:

Behind that removable inlet there is a screen that can get clogged up.

I also recomend installing a fuel filter

Thanks nightrider, I'll look into that; yes, the carb does leak but, there seems to be plenty of fuel in the bowl...

My first thought was it had something to do with me oversizing the jet 9from 0.6mm to 0.75mm) but, that sounds counter intuitive to me...

If that was the case, your spark plug would be black or even wet

IDK how you checked that there was plenty of fuel in the bowl.
But I'm thinking that if there is a fuel delivery issue. That when it cuts, its because that there are not enough fuel flow to the carb to fill it up as the engine runs. But when it stops it fills right up again.
