Default 1st Go Kart

Hi, i'm 13 and i've decided to build a go kart. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, my only issue is a small budget. I'm planning to spend around $500. I am planning to buy an azusa frame because I have no experience welding. Also, I'm going to use a 212cc predator engine. I'm just wondering, is my budget realistic.

Welcome. Your budget sounds OK to me. What you could also do is buy a roller of Craigslist and build it up from there

You're budget is VERY realistic. I use the Azusa frame and is one of the best gokarts out there... a design that goes back to the '60's.
Some folks complain that they are too small...but that is what a true gokart is.
They were not designed for comfort (need a Lincoln for that).

You can a nice kart for $500.... BUT I think I'd search craigslist.org before I buy anything. I find karts as cheap as $50, then I'd have $450 to "customize" it my way..... Engine=$85-100 tires=$45-100 paint, sandpaper, ect.... =$50.... New cables=$20-30
It could be cheaper........

I bought a good roller of craigslist for 150 everything was perfect. Tires a little worn and needed a new gas tank.
If I had to do it over id but a roller that needs a lot of work and get a honda(or a predator)
I would definitely go second hand frame new engine and clutch or tc

Just had a quick look at craigslist & there seems to be a miriad of decent karts in your area, someone is even selling a bare Manco AmEx frame for $20 (but I don't suggest you get that one...); go check it out...

I'm not as worldly or organized as you Russ.....but this does explain something I was thinking about. .....

You must have some kind of special container you put in your shopping cart. ......because your name came up in conversation. .....and the term "basketcase" was mentioned several times. .......
