Default Gx160 vs LIFAN 125CC Motor Engine

This is for all the bike engine believers lmao, i currently have race modified gx160 on my off road kart. i was looking on ebay and stumbled upon some dirt bike engines. i would like to make my kart a shifter and was wondering if the LIFAN 125CC Motor Engine would be a good prospect. it has 4 manual gears including reverse. althought in the pictures i see alot of wiring and stuff. so that leads me to ask would that all have to be hooked up? the only wiring on my kart is wired out kill switch. also what gear ratio would i run with this engine? right now i have a 12 tooth cvt on with 61 tooth on the axle. thanxs. im new to bike engine but experince with gx160 engines if that helps at all.

yes, unless the engine your buying comes with this stuff you will need a wirirng harrnes, carb, exuahst, cdi, air filter, and more, some one here prob has a list of everything. this site has good prices, most of there engines include most of the things you need to get your engine running. http://www.tboltusa.com/store/engine...c-114_119.html

the chinese quads dirtbikes etc, can do about 40 even if they are single speed. it feels that way anyway. that's on a 90cc engine. the manuals and semi autos can go a bit faster. if you know what you are doing with an engine, i would suggest buying one from a scrap yard or elsewhere. from scrapyards, they can generally be had for less than what a hf 6.5 goes for. since beginning work on these, electrical problems are almost a given on the ones with remote start/alarm; the pulse coil mount breaks on the old style honda clones (110 style motors); and the cam chains/piston rings on both the 110 and gy6 style motors. getting more power out of these motors can be more expensive than the hf clone parts. for instance, they sell a 4 valve head for the gy6, that i want to say is around the $200 dollar mark. but, a no rev limit cdi is around 20.

lifan is a china company as stated by mike, so bare in mind, unless you can find the engine its based on, parts will be hard to find. Also diagrams and wiring diagrams are very hard to locate

most lifan engines are honda ohc clones so parts and aftermarket avalability is fair.

Lifan for sure. Have one on my pit bike and it goes about 110km/h and pulls monos in 1st. Wayyyyy more power then a modded gx160. They are clones of honda crf motors and parts are easy to get on ebay everywhere. Look in the paper and stuff though coz i can pick up 3 of them for about 80AUD second hand.

the 125cc engines aren't as common as the 50cc, 70cc, 90cc and 110cc engines.

Hey brendonv, where did you see those? I was looking around for cheap bike engines here in Perth and came up with nothing. Sort of what made me build the gearbox for my kart instead. If I'd been able to get my hands on a 125cc with gears for $80 I would've snapped it up.

your best bet would be a bike shop as there is a butt load of cheap chinese quads running around these days
go and see if they can order one in for u as it would be cheaper than ordering it your self (maybe)

Written off bike auctions:

http://www.manheimfowles.com.au/
http://www.pickles.com.au/

I don't think you'll find one for $80 outright, but once you sell all the parts you don't need you should be able to get the engine, brakes, sprockets, chain, etc for free, if you pick the right bike. Maybe even make some money on it.
