Many years ago when we started the build off, Robert fixed it that new members couldn't vote. This was to stop everyone suddenly getting friends and family to become a member and vote. I cannot remember if Robert set it so that you needed a certain number of posts before you can vote, or if it was time based. I think it was time based IIRC.

Anyhoo, I do remember that being explained in the rules one year, but might not have been explained in subsequent years

DuroPower, I have to admit I like the craftsmanship on your build. You did some pretty cool stuff. Great job on the kart.

It definitely wasn't listed in the rules this year. I'm still pretty livid being accused of trying to cheat, everyone was saying we needed votes, figured someone could vote if they liked the builds so I asked my friend to check them out, yes he is real (scott), and no I wasn't asking him to vote for mine. As I've stated before, I'd rather drop out than be called dishonest, that was low and uncalled for, a forum is supposed to be for anyone who wants to contribute to the subject at hand, not to try calling others out, still haven't decided if I want to stick around after catching crap one way or another since I started the build. It's like I upset someone here a while back and I just catch **** for reasons I'm not aware of.

Everyone, just note, please don't register accounts just to vote. We'll figure it out, and it's just more time out of someone's day. Smerft85, I'm sorry you're sore, but let's just keep it happy around here.

Maybe have a talk with Sid about keeping things happy? I'm just peachy!

That's great and all, but it doesn't explain why the negative comments started on day one of my build, and continued up until I got angry over being called dishonest, integrity is one quality I've worked very hard on in my life. I've now had you with the "jeez smerft" and the other comment of "keep things happy smerft" like I'm the one that started it all, I've NEVER belittled, called names, or acted like I know everything absolutely, I've tried to contribute in every way possible, and as I've said a couple times, because of you exclusively I won't join another build-off as long as you show any inkling of thinking I'm dishonest, I think I have every right to be upset with you sid, let's quit playing it off like it's my fault and maybe YOU could take a chill pill, i have been respectful and calm.

You have been very respectfull and reasonably calm very true,
noone was implying otherwise I think.

And you are severely upset with me alright,
but you know, I'm in my head and my head alone,
so forgive me but I can't really see why.
You posted a pic of a closet door in front of your parts pile and
I suggested moving it back to have a better look at the actual parts pile.
had my sincere concerns about your rear axle stiffness
[and since you described her as "super scary at 40+".. I think I wasn't totally off with that]

And lately I doubted you had enough power to hit the claimed 70mph speed
since again a 9 hp engine unlikely generates 19 hp by just removing the governor.
and explained what those doubts are based upon. [and I quietly still have my doubts!]

While I've been told that I do come of rude at times,
(really I can't 'hear' the rudeness.. not my first language soooo details escape me at times)
I don't quite understand why that upset you that much.
So in my head (and again that's the only head I got )
you are a bit overreacting and that's where the "jeez" came from.

Honestly I wasn't trying to step on your toes.
If any of the above upset you somehow my sincere apologies.
That was not my intention at all.

'sid

PS In case I missed any important bit, please feel free to drop me a PM
(or in case you prefere, Robert or landuse) I bet it can be sorted out.

I confirmed, top speed (if I have the nerve to hold on) is roughly 50-55, you are right, my 70mph guesstimate was a bit over zealous, the thinner axle probably flexes at higher speeds, thus probably leading me to agree to a point that the axle is a weak link. I wasn't even irritated with anything until my integrity was questioned, usually I meet your sarcasm with more sarcasm, because like I said before, we are both "abrasive" at times, comes with age I'm sure, I simply felt implying I'm a cheat was a bit far, and maybe I am over reacting a bit, but I try to stand by my morals. To be %100 honest, I want to get back to the fun of the forum and set this all behind us, I accept your apologies and I also offer mine. I didn't know new members couldn't vote, and all I was trying to do was gain a member, regardless of how he may have wanted to vote, I'd never try to cheat you guys, I enjoy the atmosphere here, most of the time. I apologize to everyone in the thread for bringing us all down through this bit of drama, if something like this may arise again, I'll go direct to the source and work on the issue that way.

Good luck everyone, I enjoyed watching all of your builds!

Again, I don't see anything you need to apologize for as far as I'm concerned.
So surely accepted of course and thank you for accepting mine.

And with that let's get back to our regular scheduled program...

Lot of good builds this year, though it's TRUE for every year. Shows that there's a lot of talent in fabrication, even while on a tight budget. Shows how hard work and determination can pay out in the long run. Even if you don't win, you still won in that you built something you like and can use for a long time. The 1990s and early 2000s almost killed go karting, so it's nice to see that it's starting to comeback now. A lot of older people are building again to bring back childhood memories and share memories with their kids.

Just know, your builds could potentially help others build their own months or even years from now. Once it's on the internet, its here forever.

I'm honestly a little humbled. I'm really surprised that my build edged out the scratch built stuff like Mylo's kart/buggy and gegcorp2012's yard buggy/kart! Same thing for The Road Runner Kart.

I had NO idea I would win the Build Off when I joined DIYGK in January 2019!
I just wanted to get my kart running!
