Default Speedway Scarab

Since I created a Facebook page called " American Minibikes " I figured I should own an American-made minibike. I will add to this thread as I make progress.

It stinks that somebody cut part of the motor mount plate, because they also cut the hole for a jack shaft bearings. not sure if I will weld a new bracket there for the jack shaft, or try to use a torque converter like the previous owner did.

I can't believe I did a rookie mistake and did not turn my phone. Oh well more sideways pictures so I can blend in with the rookies.

I cut a jackshaft bracket out of 1/4" plate, drilled a 1-3/8" hole, and my buddy TIG welded it in place. I basically used the other side as a guide, traced then shape until I was ready to weld.

Simple fix. I have also in a little time with wire wheel.
It's basically just getting it ready for paint, everything appears as it should be. Even tires are in good shape.

I will probably have to use a 20 series torque converter. In meantime I will use the clutch and jack shaft set up. Or I may keep it... As I do like jack shafts for built motors.

I met a new friend that makes seats. The sides are a shiny sparkly cream color, and the top is black with gold and silver sparkly stuff.

Tires arrived, used my paint pen to color in the lettering. 20 series in-board driven unit arrived.

Just sent the frame and all the parts off to get painted.

Going with a black frame with gold flake, black and gold rims, and I'll have the handlebars and forks painted and a shiny silver.

Are you going to keep the clutch or swap in the TC?
Stache should be in full swing come Movember. lol

I can't use the TC unless I get/find an original Salsbury TC which is about 5.5" driven unit. A 6" driven 20 series rubs on the rear swing arm. I may put in a mild engine build with the black mamba jr camshaft. I am actually a fan of the JSwith modified engines and fan of TCs with stockers.

A little wax will help the stache come November LOL
