Default 4hp briggs and straton

Hi i am a noob and I want to build a go-kart with my dad. I was wondering if a 4hp brigs and straton lawnmower engine would work and how fast it would go. Thank you and any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

generally, a lawn mower engine won't work easily. Check http://www.diygokarts.com/engine/can...er-engine.html

depends on teh gearing. you could have it do 200mph, but it would take forever to accelerate. or you could make it do 0-60 in 3 seconds, but it would never reach 60, but it will accelerate like haites.
it's a choice between acceleration and top speed

for whoever just read this i posted the wrong info. I just found it and its a forward/reverse gearbox with neutral and its 330$ theres no speeds on so its kinda useless. A torque converter has variable speeds on it. i think the ratios are 2.71:1 up to 0.90:1 overdrive. It's an infinity variable speed so the ratio will vary between the two ratios stated above depending on load and engine speed etc...
