Default Go kart gearbox

Hello i own a yerf dog gx150 and have previously purchased a 440 snowmobile engine to mount to it. It will make it extremely heavy and hard to move backward. So i was looking for a gearbox that had reverse and 3-4 forward gears if anybody knows of one please let me know
thanks

As far as I know, only motorcycle engines, dirtbike engines, and lawn mower engines will give you gears. There is a forward/nuertral/reverse gearbox for a comet torque converter.

you will rip a comet gear box out real quick using a 440 2 stroke, another option is set up a starter generator, it will start it and recharge your battery, but you could fire the engine up backwards, for reverse,

Does that actually work? seems like you would hurt the engine or the startor.

Some older, 2-stroke golf carts use that method to accomplish reverse.

To the OP- Without a ton of cash to throw at a machine shop, you're basically S.O.L.

A sled engine should use a CVT. This eliminates the need for a multiple speed gearbox. For reverse on a sled unit, you're really best to get a donor sled that came with reverse and steal all the guts. I doubt you could retro-fit it.

In my experience, you don't really need reverse. Planning where you're pointing the kart certainly helps.

Another option is to sell/swap the sled engine for a bike/atv engine

yes 2 strokes can be spun backwards, they may have a little less power because of the timing, but you don't need all about 50hp going in reverse,
