Default 2 Speed's not enough!

K, My 49cc has either a two speed manual, or a broken 3 or 4sp manual.
1. How can I find a resource to let me know exactly what I have now?
(There are no apperant visible markings other than - HW139FMB
*00050763*
on the left side crankcase, just below and behind my shift lever.

The info I'm looking for is this. If it is just a two speed, can the tranny be changed into a 4 speed in the same housing? ie. Changing gears etc?
Or, does it have to be completely replaced with a new transmission?

Either way, where would I find the info I'd need to I.D. the tranny, modify it if possible, or completely replace it? And for parts?

Thanks.
Rick

Thanks again.

It's a Jawa and is 4 speed.
Yours appears to be a highly modified frame, but engine is definitely Jawa. Original bikes were made in Czechoslovakia. May be India (?) now but I can't verify this.
Might be a real challenge to get parts for it. I think seller saw you coming up Main Street. Click on Dealers and Services (in link I provided) and you'll see what I mean:

Side note:
I used to convert '60's Jawa (2 cycle) street bikes into dirt bikes.
Real sleepers from the factory. Simple sprocket change woke them up.
Politics and corporate shakeups messed with their karma.

Can't help you on this one.
Perhaps someone with transmission experience will chime in.

If it were mine I would pop the case (very slowly and carefully) just to see what's going on. Keep digital camera handy so you can backtrack if necessary. Use witness marks to ease reassembly.
Good luck.
