Default How Can I start?

Hello
my name is brandon. i am 17 and would like to build a go kart, ive always wanted one but recently thought it be more fun to make one. Yesterday, when in autoshop my autoshop teacher was giving away a lawnmower, it has a 14 hp engine, with no carb, no starter, no relay. Ive been talking it over with my parents, and will have it by monday. i will need to fix that engine up before i start this, but i was wondering, how much would it cost, and would it be possible to make one with a lawnmower engine. and frame wise does anyone have any pictures? and tips? i cant weld, but i can have the welding done at my schools autoshop, or at my dads work for free.
Ive drawn some drawings on graph paper, and im doing them on my computer now. so ill upload those later.
any help would be great.

im working on the same thing right now...
Frame design.
It depends weather you want it to go on the street or in the dirt.

short answer is that you're better off not using that engine, and using a horizontal shaft engine (like from a garden tiller, water pump, etc).

If you want to do it super-cheap, sometimes you can find junked tillers (call or go to places that fix small engines and ask)
