Looks a little on the heavy side. You want to make it as light as possible.

Well im planing on attaching the shocks at the top of the 2 peaks so they need to be stable, and i want to make sure it dosent twist too much so i was thinkin heavier base steel but nothing is set yet so it will probably be lighter than it looks.

oh and a side note

powerplant for our next project... getting it for a STEAL!! 750cc ohc honda 4cyl with trans in good shape. it needs 4 carbs and an exhaust. WOOT!

I would rethink the build if you plan on putting that lump on the swing arm...way to heavy and it will effect the working of the suspension. Go with just single a arms instead, not the best in the world but way better then what you plan on doing there.
Example of weight on suspension.. hold you arm straight out and make a fist, now move your arm up and down as fast as you can...now do it with a 10 lb bumbell.

Thats really a good lookin setup theo what did you do for the differential? custom or bought? and the brake design is in my opinion genius. i might have to rethink the rear end of the kart.

The rear drive set up is just made from 1" axle shafting, pillow and AZUSA hangers and bearings, weldable hubs and sprockets. A real easy and simple set up. But with a engine that large I would modify CV's instead of the u joints showing. Like this.

Even with that engine go without the engine mounted on the swing arm. The total weight with that engine is going to be over 100 lbs.

I think im gonna redesign the rear end to something similar to your setup as long
as i can find something to work as axles.

so the welder is here!!!!!! YAY!!! and i got an angle grinder for the cuts, although ironically the angles will be kinda tough but i am good at winging it. steel is the next item on the list..... and i will have revised plans up soon for the vultures.

just kidding i really thank all members that have taken their time to post their ideas on how to make our kart better.

Did a couple of welds today. not very pretty but strong, i welded a piece of 1"x1/8" steel tubing from a crappy bolt on roll cage that got scrapped from our first kart.
we tested the weld by standing on this piece of steel tube about 2.5feet long like a see saw with the weld closer to my(the heavy) end. It took my friend 2 good jumps on the bar to break the weld. that seems pretty strong to me. Forgot my camera and phone so no picks @#$*!! I should have some soon. We also rigged and welded a ghetto welding table consisting of the swivel base of a lazy boy recliner and a door off of a junk dryer!! In the end we have a flat conductive table that can turn a full 360 turn for full access with the ground clamp lower in the base of the swivel so its not attached to the table so no prob. we also welded a place to hang the $10 special angle grinder from the locally owned hardware store. and we also rigged up a holster for the gun for the welder so it can also hang under the welding table. hopefully will be able to get some steel monday for frame.

this is a quick idea for lower frame v2.

and this is an idea for a spring loaded pulley clutch made of 2 pieces of pipe or tube with one able to fit in the other and capped at opposite ends and one or several springs to push the pulley to the slack side of the belt and a cable running through the center to a clutch pedal(need beefy cable).

Thanks

Well sorry guys!!! it looks like we have to pause the ground up construction. between work hours because of christmas and buying a house my funds and time
are at a premium. so instead of a completely new build we are gonna mod our original "streaker" kart to fit us better and to hold the 13hp monster. should have pics of the old kart today after work. Sorry my thread got boring, best intentions but money talks and its been quiet in my wallet. maybe we can get tires to road
soon.
