I'm stuck. I see the merits of both Kelly (amended) and Fab's submissions... gonna have to chew on 'em for awhile.

Kelly had some great input, it would be a shame to just "let them go". Perhaps some combination will work; is there any reason we can't use two images; one depicting the "fun" side & another showing the more technical aspect of the forum?

Other than the fact that it goes a little beyond a "simple logo", it's not a horrible idea. We can splash that stuff everywhere, and if a member wants to get their own made, they could make use of any one or more of the three elements.

I suggest getting back to basics if you ever wish to come up with a logo. Everything seen here is great, but what really says DIY?

I mean, really. Think about this for a moment. DIY is a popular site. It's busy, lots of action here... but would a logo change anything? On one front, no. On another, yes. To the general public does it change anything? Maybe, but then again, you don't charge anything from what I can tell.

As a designer, I pose two questions: What is it really about, to you, the viewer? What imagery would say "go karts, and do it yourself?"

Think about it. Does a race kart say it? Nope. Does some crazed animal frothing at the mouth beating his engine say it? Probably not. By the front page, one would think they're at a place that gives advice on building go karts.

Sometimes the KIS method is called for. (keep it simple)

Y'know what, you're absolutely right.

When I first joined I was loking for tips on building a kart but, there's a lot more to this forum than just building karts. The majority of posts are actually about repairing or modifying manufactured karts, hence my latest submission which is based on my latest project. If you read back through the whole thread, there's a whole story behind it.

As I said previously, your submissions are awesome but, IMO, could be even better if we played around with the font.

Well, I guess now we leave it in the capable hands of the moderators & Robert to figure out what they want to go with. This thread has been going for over 6 months; if anyone's going to make a submission, they already have...

I dunno, I just now poked my head into this thread...went looking at the forum homepage and saw this photo, which makes me think a larger shot of a guy welding on a kart could be turned into a line drawing, then the words "diygokarts.com" curved around the top or bottom, or maybe on the kart license plate (every time I see the one at the forum top, I think it needs changing from KQ-8450...

Lemme get ahold of an artistic buddy of mine, and I'll be back.

edit: attach the dang photo, willya?

Something like I posted earlier in the thread? We could clean it up and make it a line drawing. Paint was giving me trouble.

No schpeaka de Ingliss...

Maybe what we could try is gleaning the more popular submissions from this thread, and post a poll...

That could work but, again, that's your decision to make. It's Roberts site so, ultimately, he has the final say guided by you & the other mods...

Yeah, that's the ticket! Only I'm thinking text that wraps around the top / bottom of the pic, kinda like this with a line drawing instead of a photo.

Maybe with something straight across the bottom, like "Get Some!"

A bit too much there, IMO. The original purpose here was a "logo or patch". IMO, all the great logos of the world are a lot simpler, and there's probably a reason why. Quickly and easily identifiable shape, translates equally well into digital or printed media, paint, vinyl, embroidery, etc. Just thinking out loud here, but I personally lean towards the K.I.S.S. theory, here.

Ok, Autocad. Make a wire frame cart to start. Seems to be the theme eh?

For some reason, I envision a simple thing. Some generic go cart with some person standing there, tools in hand... and the name of the site.

Please, ask me why I said "go cart." (not spelled with a K...)

Why did you say "go cart," not with a K?

Because the go cart doesn't have an engine yet......if it did, it would be a go kart (self propelled)

I have a few guys around here that were in the racing scene when it all started and that's how they told the difference back then. When you used a K, it refers to a racing kart. If it's just a yard or fun machine, they used a C.

That's what I've heard anyway. Don't make it true, just thought I'd throw that in there for fun.

Onward.
