Default Noob in Florida

Hello all! I have been lurking around for a while and finally decided to join. A little about me: I have been in the USAF for 15 years now, I was a Crew Chief (aircraft mechanic) on C-130's for 6 years until I cross-trained to Flight Engineer. I have flown various aircraft, but currently I fly the AC-130U "Spooky" gunships out of Hurlburt Field, Florida. I am currently finishing up my 18th deployment to Afghanistan.

I have been a gear head all my life, and when my 7 year old son asked if we could get a go kart I took it as an opportunity to start on a go kart/dune buggy idea I have had for a while. I picked up a Manco Magnum from Craigslist that had seen better days. The pics below are what I started with, and what the buggy looks like now. I put a Predator 212 on it, mostly stock but I have a pile of goodies waiting for me when I get home, I'm shooting for around 20hp when I'm done. Other mods that I will be doing include a long travel suspension with nitrogen gas charged shocks, custom a-arms, front brakes, and a better steering system. I will try and remember to take pictures and document the build on here.

I look forward to interacting with you guys, and I will help out and answer questions when I can.

- Byron

Considering what you started with, that's a really nice looking machine you have; good job

Excellent job on the Manco! I think you are going to fit in here really well. Welcome to the forum!

It must be serious fun flying one of those AC-130U's. (Sort of like riding a go kart )
