I think the forum needs a little security update to prevent these bots from signing up. Perhaps a harder captcha?

Eh? Why is this your first and only post?

I have noticed quite a lot of spam too.
Maybe new members should have to post 10 posts before links and pics can be included? As well as the other stuff.

It has certainly kept me busy today! I smoked about 12 before I went out, and came back several hours later to another batch! Yaaarrrgggghhhh!!!

Just a reminder from your friendly DIYGK staffers-

Please- Report spam posts using the report button- It's the one at the top right of the posting, red triangle icon. Also- please avoid posting responses to the spam, and/or quoting the spam, as it makes for more clean-up afterwards... Thanks, folks!

How could that work? If someone joins to get advice on a kart (as most do) the first thing we say is "post some pics". How can they if they're not allowed to; then it becomes frustrating for everyone.

Links are a different story though...

We've had this discussion, most newer users are trigger shy. Its not out of hand just yet, we want to make it easy for people to post and not scary for people who havn't used forums before.

We do get spam, but not so much that the moderators cannot handle it fairly well. Correct me if I am wrong.

I agree with Blaz, you don't want to scare people off

I've noticed the increase of spam has increased a LOT lately. Updating the forums to the latest software and adding a security question should fix it.

I find it pretty annoying to have these spam topics along my list of unread topics. I know they get removed pretty fast, yet it would be easier to prevent them registering an account. JMO.

I disagree. Personally, I'm deterred by such forums, and I'm sure potential members will be, too. A lot of people (such as myself) are lazy, and sometimes sign up for a forum to ask one question, and not stick around as a regular member. If you checked some of the activity on random profiles from this site, you'd be surprised as to how many ex-regular members there were, for example:

We have members like that could have been discouraged by a pain in the neck requirement, who have contributed info. Remember that famous "harbor freight throttle hook up?" thread? the guy is no longer active, but many new members either read that, or sometimes get referred to it. anyway, sorry this is so long, this is just my $0.02 lol

I've got a friend who just bought into a MLM(ponzi) business that involves him "posting advertisments." I (the hard sell who is totally against MLMs) said, "Oh! So you're a spammer."...no reply.

Anyway, I invited him to become a member of this other board I'm on jsut because I know how badly they'll rip him a new one Should be fun to watch

It's a never ending battle - forums vs spam - and unfortunatly, like Orange Krate said, it's a business with money involved to a point where there are full companies doing it.
Anyway, I've been reporting spam by the "!" on the right top corner of every spam post I find just in case it helps the forum masters catching them easier.

Now, let's forget about spam and enjoy our go-karts a bit more.

It most certainly does help, and thank you very much for your contribution!

well wise guy.. this was not my first post. I posted a thread last week or so asking about a motor I have.. and also in some other thread.

I logged in the other day and noticed and reported 2 or 3 spam threads about shoes and purses..
