A ring compressor isnt that necessary, however, it'll prevent snapping rings when you drop the piston and rod into the block. They are cheap to buy.

Did you make sure that the nuts on the rocker arms were nice and snug with the proper gap? It's possible one or both rocker arms could be out of adjustment.

A vehicle hood strut might end up being too stiff to be of any real use, unless one found a worn out one, then it maybe too loose to be of any use as well.

I know Red Beard's Garage used one on their drag mini bikes but I cannot find the link to it on any of the videos. But it was adjustable for how light or stiff you want it.

At least it runs 👍. How much of a pain is it going to be to tune it properly? I know Carsandcameras had a tough time tuning the turbo drift trike all those years ago with the EFI kit.
