I would make sure the transaxle you have is a Dana Spicer H12 or at least confirm for sure on what it is. If it is an H12, max input torque is 96ft/lbs intermittently and only 24ft/lbs continuously....

Put up a sheet metal barrier behind the seats and that should help from a chain snapping at high speeds. I would use whatever chain the sled used and get one that will fit for your needs.

I agree. Rather than trying to reengineer the wheel, and get plans from somewhere reputable. The Edge Products and Badland Buggy. From Badland the ST2 LT seems to be pretty decent.
