Alternately, you may be able to hammer off the welds with a cold chisel and mallet. If you can break welds on both sides and clean up with hand file, you should be able to slide off.

I considered that when I replaced the axle. Issue is it only comes in 1 width... 44 inches. A bit too wide for my cart; you can have them re-machined but adds to cost.
