Gx160 crankshaft length?
 
Hi, just trying to fut a torque convertor to a gx160 but it seems as if the 3/4 shaft from the engine is too short. There is about 1 inch from the outer face to the end of the crankshaft output.
Is this normal or is there different length crankshaft's?

I've never heard about different length crankshafts. Please post pics of what you mean, because you may be mixed up with how the TC goes together. Or something. But something smells a little off here.

I personally don't have experience with TCs, but this picture might help. Looks normal to me.

Looks similar. Not much to go onto! Might be normal and worrying for nothing.

Yes that looks completely normal, it’s the same for me. Nothing you would have to worry about

Correction always worry and be prepared but have fun.
Make sure the bolt is long enough and maybe but a dab of blue loctite on it. I learned the hard way, my bolt was too short.

Well crankshafts were longer back in the good ol days..
then some stupid chinese company cut it short (by about an inch) on behalf of horror fraud
to prevent it from being conveniently used on karts and bikes and such.
(also cheaper ;))

And even Honda followed that example..
and nowadays 3/4" shafts are more or less all to 58mm in length (2.3")
(were 72mm or 80mm before IIRC)

So you can make a spacer from a 3/4" core drilled and keyed shaft
have the key spanning the original PTO and the extension
(and that short enough for the clutch/TC not to have lateral movement)
and you should be okay.

Many just run a long enough bolt to fix the TC driver and call it good.. so far I haven't heard of any such "bolt only" failing.

So either way it should work

Another reason that some engines have a shorter shaft than they used to, is because of the centrifugal clutch. I have found that a TC driver hangs off the end about an inch, while a centrifugal clutch only hangs off about an eighth ish of an inch.

Well you can now say you have heard of a “bolt only” failing. Scared the daylight out of me, luckily I had a helmates because the “cover” I guess you would call it, if the driven pulley, hit the back of my head and the rest went rolling down the road.
Big lesson learned that day, MAKE SURE your bolts are long enough, mine was only in about 5 threads and backed out, causing the setup to fail:idea2:
