2016 - My go kart rebuild

2 Attachment(s)
G'day fellas, I just joined this website recently and saw this and thought, since I had just started rebuilding my go kart I should post it here. the original go kart's weak rear axle got sheared so I decided to tear it to bits and turn it into an absolute beast!:auto::2guns: that is, if the suspension works...I got it off eBay and they seem to be immovable!
total cost so far 300-400$ and that is for the frame $50ish?,engine(fake honda)107$ off eBay!, the suspension $99.96 (waste of money should of got them somewhere else where I could test it out!) and the clutch, chain and sprocket $89.90 off cut price racing. also the tiny wheels which were about 15-20$ each. (another regrettable purchase)
the next picture is of the old go kart that broke.

this is the earliest picture I have of it, taken about a week ago.
suspension arms have just been welded on and the new rear axle has been lathed(it is solid this time:thumbsup:(last one was hollow and it broke:ack2:)), it is short so I can add dogbones or something for suspension. All in the pictures is homemade besides the bearings and suspension springs.

Cheers everyone, it hasbeen pretty cold lately, but its 14 C now, or 57 F. Toilet water  our toilet water does not spin.
Is it true that you can ping around on the roads over there with a go kart? assuming yous are in America.
some pics of the front setup, the steering rack is from an old car.

You can "ping" around on a go kart ANYWHERE, But, No it is not legal here in the states.
That does not stop me from going to the gas station 1 mile away, for a snack, or a drink!

6.5hp 07-09-2016 11:31 PM

haha, i've seen videos of it, but it's not legal here either

chancer 07-09-2016 11:34 PM

It is only legal if you don't get caught.

Heres some pictures of my sprocket mounting, the aluminium I had in mind did not work out and in the end I ended up using an old clutch plate. It works pretty well. Also I am going to mount the axle on top as this gives more ground clearance for the sprocket.

Good idea

Bit more progress today, got the engine mounted and the brakes and stuff on there. I had to knock out some links on the chain to make it fit. There is a hole in the exhaust:eek: dont know if this is bad or not.
I had to turn the go kart on its side(with engine mounted) to drill a hole at the bottom for the brake, (a most cancerous drilling job, I broke two drill bits trying to get at that) after turning the go kart back over and starting the engine, it backfired and spat out flames about a foot out the exhaust:smiley_omg:
also a pic of the go kart as it looks now.

Never ever ever ever ever ever weld anything to your axle

Poboy kartman 07-11-2016 04:01 AM

Homemade band brake is cool...(if it doesn't snap!)

6.5hp 07-11-2016 04:05 AM

I can still unbolt the brake, and hopefully I don't need to take the sprocket off but yeah the brake is a bit dodgy, the rivets tore out once when I was testing it :o
