Supermarket Sweep showdown

Grab a pair of matching pastel sweatshirts and get ready for Supermarket Sweep Octane Edition.
We have been working on this project off and on for awhile. We wanted to build something fun and unique. Everything that is on the kart has been bought off Craigslist, OfferUp, etc or local kart shop, Precision Karting of Dallas, that helped out with used parts. **** we even scored 60 Mojo tires for almost nothing, thanks to a nice couple.
This is what we have done so far-
-1” rear axle with disk brake
-11” wide tires on the rear and 4.5” for the fronts
-Chopped up a donor kart for the entire front end(steering shaft, linkage, knuckles) Welded the donor kart front end to the rails of the shopping kart and reinforced with flat plate.
-Made motor mount plate with gussets. Using a hopped up Predator 212
-Flipped the “bread” basket to the outside of the kart. This will hold the gas tank
-Cut a hole in the bottom of the basket for your legs to go through and your back will rest up against the back of the basket. The kart sets very low and you can swing your leg over and in without climbing on anything.
Also the kart measures 4 feet wide from outside edge to outside edge of the tires!
Like two little kids we rolled it outside once we finished the final welds and mounted the tires. Did a couple of push test and rolled great, no hop from the axle and rolled straight. Also the front end has a little camber, so the kart turned great.

Still need to finish the brake caliper mount. Gas tank. Right now we are throwing an idea around to use road bike “ram horn” handlebars for the brake and throttle pedals. Sounds strange but it works in the mock up stage and looks good too. Can’t wait to get this girl to the supermarket for a couple of hot laps

That is a neat build!! The only thing I might worry about is the high center of gravity. You are sitting quite high up and in fast turns you might tip over.

Thanks. Yes it sits a little high. But it won't be hucking around corners. Mainly ripping down the streets

And the store that's missing their shopping cart? What about them huh?

Get some wheelie bars.

Hope you'll have plenty of visibility.

Might be Super Saver? I'd rip one off from Costco, they are extra wide and might be a bit longer.

I think it would just be cool enough to put cool wide slicks on a cart and enter the store with it. Might get a lot of attention but they can't stop ya...... Get some sound effects speaker mounted under it concealed with engine sounds, horn, etc....... Walk into an empty isle tap a siren sound and walk out the other end........ :D

Meh...."bag lady" handle bar "drag queen "....

How is it I'm not in a straight jacket?....(Oh...I forgot, I got out!)

Ha! We “built” the shopping cart to grocery store specs. Any likeness to another grocery store cart is merely a coincidence. Yes there will be padding for a seat, back support, and around the floor of the basket where your knees are. We have laughed about running it in a grocery store just to get a quick photo. Will update with more photos as we get closer to finishing

Update-
We hit the project hard. We buttoned some more final welds, solved and installed the pedal placement, installed heel support, acquired cables and hardware, replaced bad head and pull start on motor. Sorry no pictures yet, we didn’t finish till midnight. Trying to finish up for the meet up at Go Powersports on Saturday

Walking by Jewel yesterday, I actually thought of this build. I asked myself, "What happened to that shopping cart build? Did he turn too fast and perish like the expired milk in the dumpster?"

Guess not. Thanks for the update.

Nice!! Post some pics when you can

Don’t call it a come back.

Sorry for the long over due updates. But pull this one out of the “Projects started and never finished file.” But the Chopping Kart is running around in the streets now. It runs and drives great. We are super stoked on this project becoming a reality. We learned a lot, expanded our creativity, and most of all had a great time doing it. The main goal was to push ourselves and build it just to see if we could. And I feel that we have accomplished that goal. We do have some little details to address, better gas tank, kill switch, seat, carb and engine upgrades to really wake it up.
