They both go to the same place. I think it's a convenience thing so that you can fill it with oil no matter how the engine is placed in it's machine.

i know to some this is a silly question but new to me it is.Mr. Ironman: I would recommend that you get a hold of a junked engine, running or not, and just tear into it to see how and why things work the way they do.
You are obviously curious about this stuff (hence the 'silly' questions) so why not give it a stab.
If it's a junk engine it won't matter if you :censored: it up:oops:. I think you would be surprised at how simple and basic these things really are. If you get stuck we will help you get through it.
I usually cruise the neighborhood when folks do their spring cleaning and can find old lawnmowers, edgers, tillers, snowblowers/throwers etc. out at the curb. Most of them still run while others may require some tinkering (fouled plugs, shorted ground wires, bad coils, dirty points) to get them going.
I put up signs around my work place listing engines I am looking for.
So far I got a 2hp Briggs edger, 6hp Briggs Quantum, 7 hp Briggs snowblower, 5hp Tecumseh snowblower and 3.5 Tecumseh mower. A 750cc Honda motorcycle :drool5:on the way.
ALL FREE. Most people are just glad to rid of this stuff. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Sorry about the :offtopic: post.

Search for freecycle groups on google, then find your area. There's tons of people that give stuff away and you may be able to find something there that you can take apart.

good idea would like to build one up my self. Shoot if i can make a s-10 hop 3 feet in the air.
[hydrolic's} shouldnt be that hard to take apart one of these motors and put them back together.

I dont think cars use hydraulics to make them hop. Im pretty sure they use air bags and compressed air to hop them because the fluid cant move fast enoough to give a punch.

Actually they can and they do. They're quite silent too, not like airbags that make the pssssh sound. I'm sure you can youtube it and find videos of them. I can't you tube at work where I am otherwise I would look and post links for you.

Hey no problem!

Hey Russ, I found myself a LawnBoy today, paid $50

It's a Duraforce 6.5, is it any good? I'd have to clean it up but it certainly looks like a 2 cycle.

It's a Duraforce 6.5, is it any good? Can't get better. Lawn-Boy aficionados have told me that this is the best engine they ever made. I have at least 8 Lawn-Boys which encompasses about 4 different models...One of which is the DuraForce which does out perform other older models.
Lawn-Boy only made 2 cycles.
Do you have complete mower or just engine?

Nice, see, freecycle works! I got a weed eater a couple of weeks ago. According to the description the lady gave she didn't know if it worked cuz there was a little bit of oil on it and she hadn't used in in a long time... blah blah blah. I picked it up only to find that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and it looked almost brand new!

Russ, I got the whole mower. My friend and I were strolling through a building materials thrift store, I was only looking for an electric motor for another project that I'm gonna be doing. We were about to leave in a few minutes but before we left, we passed a small section of the store in a maximum of a 10X10 foot corner where they had some power equipment. I saw the only green mower in the small space and saw that it said "Duraforce" on the top. I thought to myself: "NO WAY!!!" Sure enough, it was a Lawnboy! You're the first person that I thought about when I saw it, LOL!

You're the first person that I thought about when I saw it, LOL!What's next? Exchanging phone numbers?:ack2: Perhaps not.

Check ID decal on mower deck. What is model & serial number?

Well I was thinking more along the lines of candle light dinners and sunset walks at the beach. :arf:

Model: 10324
Serial: 8906954

Model: 10324
Serial: 8906954That would be a 1998 with 1 speed capstan drive.
2 cycles no longer made by Lawn-Boy. Becoming collectible already. Last one was (I believe) made in 2004. Engine I converted for kart is a 2003. Is as yet untested. I was sidetracked by snow engine.
