hi
thi is my last creation...
the frame is a shopping cart, the engine a honda gx160 5.5hp with a 12 tooth clutch and linked by a no:35 chain to a 72 tooth sprocket. you can see a tractor exaust with cap a aluminium rear spoiler, mirrors and wings around the rear wheels. the brake is disc type ( it locks the rear wheel when pressed fully) . the spindles are homemade and work great. the rear wheels are bearing wheels that i converted to live axle wheels by welding 2 shaft collar to thems (see picture). you can see in one of the picture my homemade keyways, one for the disc brake and one for the drive sprocket. te front bumper is REALLY solid (i tested it by bumping it into our forklift ;) ) . in two pictures you can see how i linked the throttle cable to the honda engine (i had to tig-weld the little grooved rod to the throttle assy) and it works perfectly ! i think it's top speed is around 40 km/h (scary fast in a shopping cart)
i will try to post a video on youtube soon
enjoy!

i hooked a minni bike tripple tree to the back of a shoping cart with 20 in. bike tires & forks welded to the side....it was like pushing a trailor, every time i turned it wanted to jackknife! The next one will have a vertical shaft 12 volt electric start push mower engine with a pully tention clutch to a 3 speed w/ reverse differential axil & its tires(off old rider mower) all UNDER the basket!360 caster dollywheels in front with a single piviting drag wheel w/ seat to pull behind it ...id like to keep my basket so i can use it to pick up cans to pay for gas on my way to & from the beach!

well i hooked up the turbo today (just the esaust side) and after a quick dry test (no oil) i wasnt very surprised. i hope that with an oil pressure on the bushing i will get more spool up than that... or it's gonna be seriously non-efffective! lol tool me 6 hours to hook that sucker up (including the time to make a custom muffler) will post pics tomorrow
Your turbo is to big, its' designed for a larger engine and you haven't got enough exhaust pressure to spin it fast enough.

Y'all are nuts .............. good work, though. Make sure the frame is really reinforced to handle all the weight and (hopefully) extra power - be VERY disasterous to have something break while you're running ....

lol dont worry i crashed it twice and nothing failed! the first time i was in a trail and my steering disconnected (reinforced it since) so the cart steered right in a big bump lol i kinda flew in the air then crashed the cart on the side, second time i was doing some heavy drifting and the cart crashed on it's side, thats is why i always wear a full-face! lol

Where is the oil supply for the turbo? Why is it not hooked up to the engine?
Keep in mind that you will need to pressurize your gas tank and carb bowl if you do a blow though setup. I would get a mikuni for cheap off a dirt bike/sled and set it up so the turbo sucks mix out of the carb and blows it in the motor.
lemegacool
04-26-2009, 11:37 AM
i said earlyer in this thread that i would run it in a draw through setup, why the oil lines and compressor not hooked! well i got other things to do with my life than turboing a shopping cart!;) dont worry i only ran the turbo dry for like 15 seconds it did not even got hot...

good idea for the mikuni carb... would be easier to hook up the throttle, any minimal bore size? was looking at his one http://cgi.ebay.ca/Carburetor-Dirt-Pit-Bike-ATV-Honda-MIKUNI-Carb-30mm_W0QQitemZ220284188066QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor cycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item220284188066&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

I would say 30mm MINIMUM, How big is the intake on that blower? I would get something clamp on with a close diameter to the turbo, that way you just need a rubber hose and 2 clamps to hold it on.
how about this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-44mm-Mikuni-carb-plus-650Waverunner-SuperJet-LX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ56422QQihZ006QQitemZ 160329634383QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
No messing with jets, screw adjusted.
Does that turbo have a built in oil pump? I would recommend keeping the turbo oil separate from the engine.

bidding ended :( 41.28mm intake (you was straight in lol) so i'll look for something around that size... no the turbo does not have a built-in oil pump, i was planning on running the oil pump off the engine but i see where youre going with this... trying to keep the load off the engine... other option is a 12v pump to circulate the oil, do you have any suggestion that are not costing an arm! because i have one of those shurflo 8000-643-236 that handle hot oil for my turbojet engine and it runned me out of 130$ here in canada, basically i dont run the cart more than 1 hour per week so i dont need a ultra-super-duper-über pump, just something that can handle oil (slightly hot) and provide a little pressure like 20psi, i was thinking about theses thing : http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-DRILL-PUMP-WATER-COOLANT-FUEL-OIL-660-GPH_W0QQitemZ330325289621QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Automotive_Tools?hash=item330325289621&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

It's a 13g off of a 1g automatic eclipse/talon. For the record the 14b flows more than the t25 that came on 2g dsm's. The 13g was the smallest offered on a DSM hence most likely to spool on this engine. Good luck on the project.

How did you keep the love-joy coupler on the clutch bolt?
simple... take the bolt, cut the head (that leaves you with a stud) then take a 1/2 drill bit and bore something like 3/8 deep into the coupling, tighten set screw and tack weld the stud to the coupling from the inside. that makes you a "bolt-coupling combol" lol

I was thinking about your turbo this morning...You need to speed up the exhaust gasses because you do not have enough volume. What if you were to build up the walls inside the exhaust side of the turbo with JB weld? Sort of the opposite of porting? shrinking the exhaust between motor and turbo in diameter speeds up the flow. Now you need to wrap that pipe between the turbo and the engine so it does not lose heat. Hot air flows faster.
I have turbo'd cars and such but the stuff I turbo usually has at least 383 cubic inches...I think you could get that to work (and by "work" I mean spool up and sound neat) but you might have to go on the noisy side of the 3600 redline to get there.
jr dragster Tyler
06-15-2009, 09:14 AM
JB weld will never hold up to the heat of exhaust gas's in internal combustion engines exceeding 1300F. What was it JB melts at in the other thread? was it 450F?

look at the previous page pics are there! i dont have the choice to put the tank elsewhere than under the turbo to freely catch "used" oil
and for the wall building thingny... inside the "hot" side of the turbo there is a pipe that goes down and directs the exhaust gasses directly at the turbine!
now the only thing that stress me... the blue silicone coupler... will it hold atomized fuel... i dont hink heh?

I was just reading up on my Garret Turbo I have off a 2000cc Dodge Daytona , it only requires 30 Psi oil presure , on the Drill Pumps that supply 60 Psi it was reqimended to use a feed line with a .109" thosanths orifice to bring the PSI down to 30 - 35 Psi for the Turbo , it also said that a oil tank should be lower than the Turbo for best scavenging purposes , if there is a restriction in the scavenging then the oil will back up and blow past the inner oil seals in the Turbo and enter the exhaust side of the Turbo , thought this was interesting cause my Turbo has been sitting on the shelf for years now looking for a home , lol , I`m now wondering what it would do for my 185cc Honda trike motor I`m gonna use in my Kart , lol , Bill

just to give an update the new braking system is installed and is powerful as HELL lol , and i'm only gonna say to you that i can now hear the engine suck air though the carby , i did not put gas in it yet as i have to wait for the permatex gasket to dry... gonna try it tomorrow...
now everything in the rear is reinforced/bolted solidly! hope it works or i'll have done all this for nothing :(

the beast is alive!!!
started in 3 pulls of the crank! AWESOME! but was running way too high even with the speed screw all the way out. so i filed the copper thing in the center of the carb so the pluger can go down more. now i have a very smooth idle!!! :bannana:
BUT it has a problem... when i press the gas pedal too far it just slow down and stall... the effective range of the gas pedal is like 1/4 of its travel... methinks that the carb is too big/ too big jet thoughts!?!
anyway its still driveable you just have to learn the throttle "sweet spot"
now for the porn! (BEWARE 56K WILL AUTODESTRUCT!)

jr dragster Tyler
07-22-2009, 07:52 PM
Looks pretty fast! The stalling is because your main jet is too lean. Find a numbered bit that fits the main pretty good and go up a size. Tell me your stock main jet size first though. I also noticed on the stand when your motor stalled and when you shut it off your drivetrain and wheels locks up suddenly. Howecome your wheels dont keep spinning to a slow stop?

dont have idea of the spee but for a shopping cart its pretty fast ... would like faster though :roflol: is the main jet the copper thing in the center of the carby? so basically it it'st getting enough fuel... hehehe i like where this is going...:devil2: and yeah the brake is rubbing on the disc thats why it stopped suddently...
the first time i started it with the idle screw completely off it was running too fast, so i actually had to file down the plunger stopper so it can close more... is enlarging the main jet will cause idle problem?
jr dragster Tyler

The main jet is machined from Brass. Pull your carb and bowl off and get a picture. I will leed you from there.

okok its the little hexagonal head screw with a hole in it, so basically you want me to enlarge it right? wont that ****up my idle?
EagleTalons
07-22-2009, 09:26 PM
It would be better to buy some jets to play with so you don't overbore one too badly and have to braze it and re drill it. Also for the idle the needle has a clippy on it under the spring hold down. You can raise or lower the needle for more or less fuel.

absolutly freaking awesome project mate  but you should stay away from slide carbys if you can because when theres a turbo atached to them they can sometimes suck open leaving you stuck on full throtle which will lead to girly sreams :roflol: and an expensive sounding clunk from your engine :mad2:

I dont think its possible for suction to pull open a slide carb. You may be thinking of Keihen carbs with the diaphragm that opens the slide, but with mikuni's the slides are opened directly by the throttle cable, and have a pretty good return spring.

In case any one's interested these restricter plates come in 3 graduated sizes, (purple, blue and gold) and they're instaled between the carb and engine to purposely lower power and speed in junior kart racing classes.
One of these would probably increase the velocity of the air-fuel mixture entering an engine but I'd think restricting the intake or exhaust at any point would only worsen the drawbacks of using an over sized turbo.

oh and if you ever get a cone air filter be sure to get one that is made in fabric and not just a ****ing mesh... my carb was full of dirt... i'm surprised the cylinder looks that good! lol
omg when i'm finished with this i'm sooooooooo bringnin it to the local modified car show LOLOLOLOL... hmmm i wonder if this thig would be dyno-able... " and now on the dyno... a ****ing turbo shopping cart?!?!?!!" LOLOLOL

A engine that use's nitrous oxide to boost HP relies on nitrous at WOT to run properly. You cant have a engine that runs good without the nitrous at WOT then just spray it. That's where severe engine damage occurs like cracked heads/blocks/melted pistons. Ever see a drag car have a nitrous malfunction? Just loads up with fuel.

I've ran both a k&N and a UNI. I thoroughly clean and re-oil my filters each race night and I've still found remnants of dirt in my carbs throat using either brand. Since I started using an Outerwear (http://www.outerwearsracing.com/) over my air cleaners I dont find any traces of dirt in my carb.
Almost all the Dirt oval kart racers I've ran across run a K&N with an Outerwear but I think UNI makes a great filter too.
