How do you put a brake on a dead axle? Does it have to go directly to the wheel? What is easier a live or dead axle? I want to do a dead for pavement use but idk....

Yes the brake mounts right on the wheel which usually has a small drum on it.You can also use one of those brakes that press down on the tires or put a brake band around the clutch itself.
