??? for those running a 13hp honda engine

I am going to start building a custom go cart and I will be using a 13hp Honda engine for the powerplant. I have been unsuccesful in finding a suitable converter or clutch for this engine. Does anyone have any advice for me or a place where I can look for converter? Sorry if this has been posted before but I didnt see anything that would have helped me yet. If it matters, I will be using some ATV tires for this thing soI can get some ground clearance. Nothing big though. Maybe the height of a golf cart tire at the most. All I have is the engie and frame right now.

I haven't seen any clutches rated for anything above 8hp.

i haven't either, but I've always wondered why not... i figure it would work -- i mean, once the clutch locks up, it's locked up...?

wow, thanks for the help. Im thinking that I may not be able to use that Comet converter since I am trying to run a custom live axle setup. my cart has 2 seperate independent axles and both can be locked in the middle by sliding a lock over them. I do not HAVE to use this method if it will limit my options for a torque converter or clutch. Can I run a live axle with a converter?

yes you can run a axle with converter,have drive clutch on engine,then the driven on a jackshaft that goes to the axle via chain.

ya that what I figured. I am currently looking at a lot of different pics of how others have set up there carts so I can get a better idea of how to mount all this together. This will be hardest part of the build. I just want a simple setup that doesnt require a lot of maintance and fabbrication.

holy smokes!!! thats alot of $$$$$$$$$$. Now that must be used with a jackshaft or can I modify something and have it drive a differential straight from the engine? I do not 100% understand this jackshaft stuff. All I want is a setup that runs either a chain or a belt from the output shaft on the engine, straight to the axle.

yeah maybe the one at norther for 180 thats the cheapest new one ive ever seen. Try e-bay for a used one the only thing to wear if its not been absolutly smashed at low speeds is the belt.

that one wont handle 13 horsepower you can buy torque convertors to handle the power but you have to make a jackshaft to support it once you get out of the torque-a-verters route it doesnt come with a aluminum back plate pre mounted for you with bearings to support the secondary pulley.
