I don't think anyone here has $285 US to spend on a battery tray, when most kart's don't even have a battery, and a 'serviceable' battery holder takes 15 minutes to make with $5 of steel.
It's a nice product, but there's no market for it here.
I mean, $330 AUD ($285 USD) is about what my entire 50hp engine + 6 spd. gearbox + good battery + battery holder + wiring + brakes + sprockets + chain + many other pieces owes me.

Nice box but sorry to say no one here will pay that much for a battery tray. you might wana go look over into lawn mower racing theres lots of people with money there willing to spend it on "shinny billet" or light aluminum crap for there mowers... they pay 600+ for a billet flywheel for a lawn mower engine.

Way to expensive but man does it look nice :drool5:
The battery tray in one of my cars is a piece of tin and duct tape lol

Sorry to hear you guys feel that way about the pricing. I actually sell it to the custom motorcycle guys. In that industry they sell for up to $600, so $285 is a good deal. Thought maybe there would be a market for you guys. Thanks for the compliments.

You cant machine that in a lathe...
Its aluminum
It would most likely have to be CNC machined, or at least it would a million times easier, and be a better product in the end.
And yes, it probably would cost $50 in aluminum, but you also have to take into consideration time and tools used.
CNC or even Manual milling Machines are not cheap, our Chinese CNC at school was $39,000...i think our manual was $9,000.
For time comparison, at school i made a program to Machine a plastic strap for my track frame, it was about 6" long, by no more than 2.5" wide, and was machined out of delrin. The program took about 5-10 minutes to run all the way through, and trust me you can plug much deeper in plastic than aluminum.
Bottom line, it is a very nice battery tray, and although his asking price may be a little high in my opinion, he is just offering his product, and is not hurting anyone. YOU may not be able to use it, but im sure there are many people out there (not on this forum maybe) that would love something like that for their project.

Kaptain Krunch, thanks for your input. I'm glad someone actually knows what is involved and why I even placed this on here. This piece requires some 3D machining as well, which takes a bit of time.
By the way folks, it was made on a HAAS...

To be honest I had no idea what a kart even cost to build. Custom bikes can easily reach the $35-50k mark. I just figured maybe it was something kart builders might be looking for.

It is very nice don't get me wrong! But considering I can get a 13 hp w/ electric start for that price, sorry man it's slot of money just to hold a battery! And whoever paid 600 bucks for a fricken battery tray just got jacked!!! Lol

maybe make a lesser version that could be marketable here?
something that would be possible around 20-50$

Man, that's gorgeous! But you're aimed at the wrong demographic here. This is a DIY kart forum, many here have successfully built entire karts for less money than that very pretty battery tray. You're more likely to see guys using duct tape, angle iron, and bailing wire around here. I myself built a tray out of angle iron welded to the frame, and used a cam-buckle strap to secure the battery in it.
Indeed, I spent less than that on a running motorcycle to pillage for my next project, and for that price netted myself an engine, transmission, hydraulic brakes, sprockets, wiring, gauges, and lights.
Most of us here don't have a huge budget, and again, DIY. If that were not the case, we'd all go out and buy sparkly new ATV's, UTV's, Rails, buggies, whatever, and start bolting on all the pretty, billet battery boxes we could lay hands on. But that's not us.
SO- Don't be insulted, you've got yourself a work of art there, which, aimed at the right market will do very well I'm sure. This is not that market.
Cheers!

That is a beautiful aluminum battery holster. I think I might be willing to pay almost as much for this one made from angle iron, it looks DIY, as it should be! How much!?

Me and my dad split the cost I think it was $220 for all. Far cheaper then 2 part epoxy automotive paints. When using 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1/8" steel tubing with this chasis desihn its extremely ridgid and I cant feel one bit of flex even jumping on it. Line-X is ment to stay flexible to a point and shouldnt chip off ever. If it does, Bring it back and they repair it for free of charge.

You cant machine that in a lathe...
You could machine that in a lathe, but it would take forever... A lathe can be used as a horizontal mill if you're in a pinch.
My old boss used to say a lathe is the only machine that can be used to replicate itself.
I agree with everyone else though. Really nice part...too nice for most of our toys.

not bad, i like it
would be great on off road vehicles
you can use a mill to turn. you just have to have a turntable to do it (or cnc)

here's my yardstyle milling set up, I hooked up the motor to my battery charger & set it on a board for hight , turn on my table top grinder & milled it to fit, not perfect which I was hopping for but rather nicely done all the same ,with both spinning it kept the turning centered, a bit of a monster for this bike & to maintain the E-bike status it has to go no more than 32kmph! I'll have to drag my feet or something also has to be no more than 120kg ,no more than 50cc equivlent! & no more than 500Watt's & to date I only know "it's a 12 Volt" & it can take more than my battery charger can give(75amps) & needs to, to spin a centrifugal clutch, spins both ways just switch pos-neg terminals, but hey back to the mill, I need a better set up, it's fine for a pully but not a sprocket, to sloppy, if I use the clutch I might pack a little liquid steel in the end, the other end's tight hey thanks for listening! Nice product there speedmachine. You would have better luck making a simple unit out of extruded aluminum rectangle tubing, aluminium bottom plate, and aluminum top plate. Maybe a small tab bolted onto the bottom of the top cover to hold the battery in place better.

I own a mill and I cant see you selling that for 100$ 120$ but geeze man thats allot that you want.
