does anyone know of a list where x mods do best with y carb? i was thinking of just buying a cheap ($30) 30 or so mm carb and building my engine to it. i have really mild porting, will be extending out the carb (as soon as they come in), 160 head, flat top (soon), and 1.3 rockers. i have the slim head gasket and will unshroud my valves. i realize tuning is going to determine alot of the size of the air horn. but what is the ball park? 22mm is for stock valves, which i have

MOST people reccomend a tilly carb.
they are HIGH though you could put a GX390 carb on it its 100 bux with adapter.. or a 22mikuni 100 bucks with adapter..
LOL 100 bux is average cost for a carb upgrade. tilly will be 150 give or take

Used tillys can be had for under $50(rebuild kit is around $10), if you do go with a diaphragm carb like the Tillotson, you will need a pop off pressure tester to properly set it up.

i've ordered some animal spacer/adaptors for $11.00. i can get miks, kiehins or off brand up to 32mm for around $50 or less, sometimes with an aftermarket filter. i dislike vacuum carbs even on bikes (vacuum petcocks even more). tilly might be a good carb, but i like simple. i'm thinking i should get another 'ricky' notebook and try various carbs. i'm (supposed to be) heading to a scrapyard later and will try to pickup some good donors cheap.

So wait u wana do carb mods? if so knife edge the throtal plate and then polish the hell out of the inside of the carb.... remove the choke if u want to... just use ur hand as a choke let it warm up then put the airfilter on.

32mm slide carb would be huge for one of these unless it had some pretty serious mods. My 440 sled engine uses a single 34 or 36.

i know. my dad has a 550 suzuki triple (two stroke) and i was wondering whether i should even try it. seems two strokes don't have as many parameters to worry about. maybe advance the timing or get a hotter coil, then you can add the carb. oh and maybe a forged piston

A 32 mm carb would be monster / way way too large for that motor. The stock intake port is only like 24 mm wide at the widest possible point.
