Niiiiiiice. 2-strokes are insane.
Mine is a 487cc (nearly 30 cu in) inline twin.
4 stroke
Air and oil cooled
9.0:1 compression ratio
47hp stock
11,000 rpm redline because of valve float
Custom adjustable on-the-fly rev limiter 0 - 11,000 rpm
Twin 34mm Mikuni carbs
6" Autometer monster tacho
Performance stainless steel exhaust (loud! See pic)
Rejetted from 17.5-60-130 to 20-60-145
Larger than stock oil cooler
Soon to have uni filter pods
6 spd sequential gearbox
Wet multi plate clutch
Best pic I have of the engine:

i want to run 2 carbs on the twin, it probably wouldnt matter, but i think it would be cool
actually it would dude more response!!! A mikuni on each cyl. :devil2:
well i took the base plate off the kohler and thought of hunting down the last owner :censored:. one connecting rod was totally crushed into little pieces and other was pretty bent, camshaft was broken in half, pistons were chipped, exhaust valve was chipped and a small piece on the very bottom of the cylinder wall was chipped. i'm see if i can still use the block since my old shop teacher lives near by to get his opinion on the cylinders (piston rings get no where near the damaged are but just to be safe)
So if that doesnt work out i'll take a trip to the junk yard and get a 18hp Kohler opposed.
freakboy
11-10-2009, 03:19 PM
You can definitly use the block as long as the bore aint scored like hell. is the crank good?
Rotore
11-10-2009, 03:23 PM
no the bore is perfect dude and i havent had enough time to inspect the crank but will do on thursday plus i found where most of the weight was coming from lol that steel flywheel is about 24lbs.
but i'll have to order pistons, connecting rods, piston rings, a new camshaft, exhaust valve and a gasket set which would be about $280 estimate
freakboy
11-10-2009, 03:38 PM
OUCH! i would look at the local junk yard for a complete engine and then get the junk yard engine to run.
Rotore

11-10-2009, 04:20 PM
oh yea it's worth it when you see the power that can be made from this engine and besides im getting the parts for free from my old shop teacher i just got his call so YEAH!!!!!!!!!
and bad news i will end up building a rail instead of a reverse trike bmikarts doesnt have my parts in stock so cancelling that order.

axle, hubs, sprocket, clutch, bearingings, lock collars ect basically the whole rear end of a kart so i have to go cancel the order and shop around so instead of a reverse trike i'll make some kind of a rail/dragster type kart

what kind of tranny? BTW there are some twin brigs on hey mow going up to 11k rpm.
but i was wondering they make a connecting rod for the ch730 series engine thats .010 longer and was wondering if i could use it with the factory crank and wouldnt it give the engine a higher comp and longer stroke since its driving the piston up higher.
BriggsTwins
11-11-2009, 09:38 AM
the trans is off the tractor i revived the twin from, 6 speed with reverse, and its a heavy mother. 11K on a twin.....scary...... and yes with a longer stroke youll get compression increases, but stuff specially sized especially billet rods is gonna cost u

stock rods are good enough for now dude
Kaptain Krunch

Rods dont determine stroke, cranks do. That rod will give you higher compression, but it will not increase stroke at all.

The longer rod will just increase the piston pop up. Measure how much its in the hole and how much room you have to work with first.

The piston is 2mm away from the head at TDC. ANd as of now it does kinda touch the head but it wont after i get all that carbon of the heads.
so would it be safe to go with a .010 longer connecting rod or should i just go with the standard size?
freakboy
11-11-2009, 04:46 PM
a .010 should be alright but you can shave the piston a bit like .05 so you get a lighter piston. just make sure the first pison ring dont come anywere closer to the deck then 1/32

what cubic inch is that engine?
jr dragster Tyler
11-11-2009, 05:28 PM
If it where me I would be getting the standered sized connecting rods. You want to measure piston top to deck height with a dial indicator or something equivalent. Remember changing the rod length and nothing else affects the thrust side geometry. Just something to think about...

11-11-2009, 05:55 PM

I'd mill the head or mill the deck, rather than buy a .010 longer rod.
Rickracer
11-12-2009, 06:28 AM
A longer rod (with a piston that has the correct deck height), will be easier on the piston and make more power. IDK if .01 longer would help much though, probably not worth the trouble unless the plan is just a stronger rod, but the piston MUST match, or it will stick out of the block.

And whats the big advantage of a reverse trike over a regular 4-wheeled go kart anyway? I dont get it. Is it just to be weird, tip over easyer or have less traction?

geometry w/ a reverse trike is different from a 4 wheel kart kinda like human feet which are wider in the front then the heel for balance dude. i'd recommend the front to be 40" and have the engine mounted as low as possible for balance purposes but easier to do burn outs and drifts on a reverse trike then a 4 wheel kart because your only trying to brake traction on one wheel.

i'd recommend the front to be 40" and have the engine mounted as low as possible for balance purposes but easier to do burn outs and drifts on a reverse trike then a 4 wheel kart because your only trying to brake traction on one wheel.
Sprint karts (like mine) come with extra long front spindles and a stack of wheel spacers that can be instaled in any combonation of inside or outside the front wheel hubs, to adjust the front track width to anywhere between around 36" to a 44" overall width. (depending on kart, wheel and tire brand/sizing)
The bottom of my race kart engine only sits about 2" off the ground.
So my whole point here is... meyby a race kart could be a good candidate for a reverse trike conversion.
Of course just instaling inexpensive skinny, hard tires on a 4-wheeled kart would also create poor traction characteristics and allow for easy drifting.

ok but how would i go about ding that dude?
One method would be to corectly relocate the oil pickup. Tap into the oil galley after the pump, run this into the top of your dry sump tank, and then connect the tanks (bottom mounted) return line back into your engines oil galley thats feeding the engine. The tank, cap and lines would have to hold pressure. Theres a lot that could go wrong here and I'm not necessarily suggesting you should attempt this, I'm just answering your questions.

If you could mount the dry sump tank under the engine, you could just drill out a sufficient drain hole in the bottom of the engine to allow gravity to fill the tank. Then you'd just need to plumb the oil pickup to draw oil from the bottom of the tank.
Thing is, even in a pressure lubed engine, it still might need the crank splashing oil around to help lube things and you wouldnt be getting this with a dry sump setup.

lol dude you actually gave me an idea but idk if it would be worth it?
my in-law said that i has a 400cc briggs that i can use its a vertical and single cyl.
do you think that would work if i add a oil pump and tap holes in the block. 1 in the that has a fitting aiming towards the bore and another aiming to the valve tappets?
Then use the coil and carb from the 25hp on it?
anderkart
11-14-2009, 10:22 AM
It might, but from what I've learned: Splash oil systems at higher rpm's create a fine mist of oil that lubes everything. I dont know how you could duplicate that with an external pump. (meyby nozzles that sprayed a mist everywhere instead of streams of oil directed at certain componets?)

i am considering a turbo on the twin.... i moves enough pressure to make decent boost. but i look at it and realize im going to keep the RPM low and use the low end.....
Rotore
11-14-2009, 06:23 PM
You can get up to 5000rpm on your twin dude thats a decent amount of exhaust gases to move a rather small turbo liKe a kp31 maybe a 14b or t25 if you add an emissions pump of a v8 to the exhaust manifold to increase exhaust pressure.
BriggsTwins
11-14-2009, 06:39 PM

i can, just needs tweaked.
Rotore
11-14-2009, 07:18 PM
You can adjust it by moving the govener arm right?
BriggsTwins
11-14-2009, 07:51 PM
actually by tightening a spring on it, it is actually built to run at what ever speed. the screw can give the governer more spring tension and thus more RPM
Rotore
11-14-2009, 08:31 PM
So i could set my govener for 6000rpm by using a tighter spring?
Btw the turbo that would fit our engines are kp31 smart car, gt15 saab 9 or mazda 323
NJOHC
11-14-2009, 08:34 PM
I did that with my subaru and it worked. It wasnt a twin though......wish it was.

yes tighter springs fight the governer's pull and keep it low, on the throttle, a spring change will change that
modelengineer
11-14-2009, 09:45 PM
Somehow I don't think a mazda 323 turbo would work. Thats a 1.6L or 1.8L engine (can't remember which) making over 80hp without turbo, and reving to 6,000+. A ~20hp ~750cc twin isn't going to cut it.

Gt15 is exactly used on 30hp rhinos and 600's too dude if it does cut it say hello to a v8 emissions pump :p

Get your mind out of the gutter dude :worried2:
Well its kinda dark and all the pictures i took came out pitch black BUT its the same Kohler 25hp Ch730 series 725cc and my parts arrived clutch axle and what not so its been a pretty good day. :wai:
The crank case is perfect except the govener fell off the base plate for some reason, i didnt get a chance to the heads off but the crank case, crank, connecting rods and cam look good.
BTW the engine wont turn over i thought would be because everything in the crank case was broken but they look fine what could it be?
And a quick question i was looking at the specs on the engine and it said 1.9L and its a 725cc so what is it a 1.9L or 0.725L?
freakboy
11-16-2009, 06:14 PM
are the rods seized up? on the crank? do the pistons move up or down are they melted to the cylinders. and are the rods melted to the crank?

No the rods are fine and the crank journals aré ok for the abuse it's been through the pistons not sure since he said it was sitting outside i was guessing water got into the cylinders and formed some rust on the rings freezing the motor? But i wont be sure till i pop the heads tomarrow.
modelengineer
11-16-2009, 06:59 PM
725cc = 0.725L, it's not a 1.9L.

BriggsTwins
11-16-2009, 08:24 PM
PB or MMO the cylinders you need something to break it loose, and if its a no-go then a bearing might be locked up....
Rotore
11-16-2009, 08:27 PM
Yea could be the bearings because i remeber the rods had a bit of play but the crank shaft wouldnt move at all
BriggsTwins
11-16-2009, 09:24 PM
ok. well lube them up, a spun bearing in these engines spells death

BriggsTwins
11-17-2009, 10:58 AM

Rotore
11-17-2009, 03:17 PM
Well i took the heads and the rest of the block off and found a bolt melted in the cyl and is permanantly on the head and yes water did get into the cylinders. It had about an 1" of dirt on it so it did over heat and the rings on one piston melted in the groves so cyl needs to be honed and not sure about the bronz pistón and rods.
But will post piks an a couple mins
Kaptain Krunch
11-17-2009, 03:41 PM
