Sucks that they don't let twins compete over there would of been a sick kart

How about who's got the heaviest engine? (I think I've got this one in the bag, I can hardly lift that one)
Rotor prolly got the heaviest, my kz400 engine is pretty heavy, but my 18 twin is equal if not heavier, so i cant imagine how heavy his 25hp kohler is.
How bout who has the most horses in their twin? i think it would prolly go

Yea your Rm prolly has more power than my KZ, hopefully once i get a better carb/airfilters i can get a little more power, its 36 horse stock, maybe i can make 38 or so? either way its more than enough.
What kinda power will that RD350 put out?
modelengineer
11-24-2009, 03:52 PM
Looks to be either 47hp or 63hp, depending on the year.
Kaptain Krunch
11-24-2009, 03:55 PM
Nice, that would rip in a little racing kart frame. I bet it would make even more with some expansion chambers.

My kohler is 127lbs kaptain i think your engine wins in weight but tyler probably has the most power.

I reckon mine is around 60kg, or 130lbs
Rotore
11-24-2009, 04:13 PM
You guys with bike engines over 150cc will be heavier then my kohler.
My kohler is heavy because of the flywheel and starter other then that it's a light weight

Rickracer
11-24-2009, 04:24 PM
My Rm 250 motor is an 84, factory rated 40 hp @ 8000 rpms. It's got a bit more compression, carbon fiber reeds, and a better air intake system, so it's probably at least 42~43 hp, maybe more, and I know it will turn at least 9600 rpms, :D . It's actually a bit lighter than my Honda GX240 (maybe 5 lbs less, both are right in the 50 lb range), but if you add in the radiator, coolant, coil, CDI unit, expansion chamber and silencer, it may be 10 ~15 lbs heavier, still not a porker by any means though, ;)

I worked on a twin today too, 440 2 stroke piston port/single carb. Pretty low performance but she dont weigh much and puts out around 50hp. Once i get some fuel line, gas and a rope to use as a recoil i can see if she'll start, shes got killer compression and good spark so i dont see y it wouldnt.

Yup, shes got a single 34 or 36 mikuni roundslide, i got a pair of 30mm roundslides that i plan on hooking up to it, but one of them has a frozen in idle jet which i cant get out. theres some pics of it here http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6452
Rotore

Oh I thought they all came with twin carbs
jr dragster Tyler
01-12-2010, 05:55 PM
My twin cyl 440 has dual carbs. Quite a few of those old sleds where single carb.
Kaptain Krunch
01-12-2010, 06:00 PM
Its all about what the sled was designed for, this was a fuel friendly trail sled.
I was working on my neighbors yamaha ovation 340 for him, and it was the first time i'd ever looked closely at a yamaha. Those things are pretty well designed, they have a nice duel barrel carb and everything is just fit in there perfectly.

Kaptain Krunch

Maybe its just me, but i've had bad luck. i wouldnt use one unless i had to. Plus those diaphragms aint cheap.

I got them apart already took me 10mins. Btw what's the slide on it for?
BriggsTwins
01-12-2010, 08:28 PM
which slide, the thick round one, or the flat one
Rotore
01-12-2010, 10:08 PM
Flat one?
modelengineer
01-13-2010, 05:55 AM
I discovered that my twin has only been firing on one cylinder, so the vids really show a 250cc single... It's all good now though.
In the carby the round one is the butterfly, the flat one is a vacuum operated slide. AFAIK it's used instead of an accelerator pump, but instead of injecting more fuel, it stops the throttle being opened really quickly which would cause the engine to run lean.
Rotore
01-13-2010, 08:13 AM
So its the slide opens with the vacuum created by the engine and draws it's own fuel instead of using a pump?
I see no point in using it now....
Kaptain Krunch
01-13-2010, 08:16 AM
From what i understand its just basically to make the throttle response very even and smooth, you will get better performance from a flatslide or even a roundslide, there just way to complicated IMO, why have a slide, butterfly, AND choke. Mikuni slide carbs just have a slide, they dont even have a choke.
Rotore
01-13-2010, 09:20 AM
Oh ok I get where your going with that
modelengineer
01-13-2010, 01:27 PM
Mikuni slide carbs just have a slide, they dont even have a choke.
My Mikuni's have a butterfly, a slide, and a choke but the choke is (I think) another fuel jet which opens. It's not another air restrictor.
Kaptain Krunch
01-13-2010, 01:32 PM
You must have CV carbs if they have a butterfly and a slide. I'm talking about plain slide carbs, which used a cable operated slide and have no choke, just a fuel enrichment circuit (which is basically another jet like you said that is opened when you pull the choke lever/cable).
Rotore
01-13-2010, 03:58 PM
