How do you remove and replace valve springs without a valve spring compressor? Any tricks or hints? Pictures of how to without the compressor?

push down as hard as you can and get the retainer out of there with a free finger.

push down? on what, the spring to compress it? Once thats done how do i get the retainers out? I did it once with a screw driver and my hands. It was a struggle though.

if for an OHV engine
Take a peice of rope. insert into sparkplug hole..
Push down on the retainer and then you should be able to push forward/backward and retainer come off...
Usually the slot is UP on tha valve.
You can remove upto 26lb springs with your fingers
