Well this should be your #1 tool in your tool box when working on a kart NO MATTER WHAT. There is no excuse to not be safe when working with power tools and heavy objects. There is no rush to build a kart and safety is the number one priory. when working with power tools and what ever else you do THINK BEFORE YOU DO. here are some guide lines to being safe.

1. Protect your eyes you only get one pair and living without vision for the rest of your life isnt something anyone here wants to do.

2. When welding make sure your welding in a open ventilated area! two reasons the fumes are toxic and there are sparks you do not want your garage catching fire do you?

3. If your garage is cluttered or work space is cluttered CLEAN IT UP! I am sure no one wants to be tripping over tools and stuff when there trying to grind or do something and are not paying attention to were they are working.

4. Keep a first aid kit near by and a phone near by. You may be wondering why. Well lets see your working alone in your garage your excited this is the last piece you need to cut or something, your starting to get reckless in anticipation and well your not paying attention now you have a huge gash somewhere on your body and its bleeding. first thing you should do is try to stop the bleeding with the first aid kit or paper towels or something then call 911. face the facts just calling 911 wont help takes way to long for them to respond. so if you try to control the bleeding your gonna be much better when they get there.

This is just a quick reminder about safety not really in depth but remember just keep a clear head. think things through and don't half *** stuff

I was cleaning a carb once, and thought i had all the gas out, anyways i was blowing compressed air into some of the passages and i got a huge shot of gas in my eye, that felt good.

i do have a pair of safety glasses. There on the floor next to my chop saw, i cant stand wearing them unless there good quality ones, they always tend to fox up or get scratched and make it impossible to see.

I had some prescription safety glasses on my first time i got a piece of metal embedded into the cornea of my eye. The second time I had on large glasses over my glasses. There were pieces of hot metal embedded in the inside on my lenses! Bounced off my face and into the glasses, and one did a third bounce into my eye.

Nothing worse than not knowing it got in there, got mixed in with the pain of squinted eye spot welding. Next day my eye feels the sand sand in eye feeling. I look in the mirror at work and can see the speck in my eye:ack2: . So off I drive to the eye doc; which has my eye all wet and wanting to constantly close due to the bright sunshine. Eye doc said it was beyond her care again and promptly called to clear an appointment at the same old eye surgeon i had last time. This last time was cheaper ($140 no insurance) as it was stainless steel in there along with me getting attention within 24hrs. Last time I went like 4-5 days and had a nasty rust ring ($190 no insurance).

So anyway I tossed all my safety glasses out. Got the nerdy looking goggles and never had a problem again:Angel_anim:

I was grinding the old brakes off my new cart this weekend and it didnt take me long to find a full face shield. I don't know what you would do these things without protection!

And remember kids, wear a raincoat where it's wet!

Don't weld on any metal you've sprayed brake cleaner on. Can form a deadly Phosgene gas.
