Hello everyone

I'm new to this form, I want to start a new project but
I need some ideas on how to do it. I've had a 1970 Ruttman
Mini Bike for about 10 yrs that I picked up for $200.00 I completely restored it and have had many years of enjoyment out of it.

The original 3.5 Hp Tecumseh motor finally died, so I shoe horned a 6.5 hp Briggs hobby motor into the small frame.
The first time the comet clutch kicked in the bike flipped
out of my hands and did a full 360 in the air landing on the back wheel ... the only real damage was my ego as my friends
looked on in awe. I have since learned to tame the beast but it is always a scary ride.

The project: I would like to turn this mini rocked into a Trike,
does anyone know of a kit or how I could go about installing a rear axle, sprocket and disc brake system on this bike. Maybe
the Go Kart guys would have some Ideas.

I'd think a Barstool racer, axle setup would be prety cool and about the right width for your Ruttman. You'd probably have to weld on the Caliper and Axle bearing mounts, but after that everything else should bolt right on.

For a less expensive alternative you could probably buy a used go kart frame or meyby a 3-wheeler and then adapt the axle over.

do you want diff or posi? with posi you may need neck bearings (if you don't already) and depending on how fast you are going when you turn they will wear out quicker. diff will allow you to turn easier, posi requires slow steady turn on trikes. what size sprockets are you running? jackshaft?

Keep in mind that applies only on pavement. I would use neck bearings no matter what.

crazycart what applies only on pavement? rate of turn? in having a couple of atc's and fourwheelers with posi or solid axle, oversteering while turning puts alot of stress on the front end, drive train etc. dirt or asphalt. three wheelers will try to throw you quick. maybe it is better for a posi on a three wheeler, you would not be so tempted to do high power/speed turns.

Well the new project is under way. I found a chopper
frame on Kijiji for $100.00, it already has all the parts I need
except the rear shaft is to short and I need another wheel.

I stripped it down to bare bones, primed the frame and started laying out the new build. Here are some pics of what I did this weekend. The wood in the first picture was the previous owners
idea for a chain gaurd and check out the throttle.

I will post more pics as the build Progresses.
